2.1 How do you care for yourself day to day?

Upon waking up, I am always thankful for the blessings that I had received and I have to
receive. My morning routine is usually bed organization, saying good morning to my pets
and morning wash.

For breakfast I usually just eat bread paired with a hot/cold beverage. For lunch I usually eat
at 1-2pm and for dinner I usually eat late like 8-10pm. My food preference is more of
vegetables and less meat. If I our viand is meat, I usually cook myself an egg.

I sleep for about an average of 5-7 hours. Because I am usually occupied with mobile use. I
do not have an exercise routine or any recreational activities. If I am stressed, I usually
unwind thru an open communication with someone.

For grooming and hygiene, I usually take a full bath every other day (depending on a
situation) and half bath everyday. When I am at sick, I don’t usually go for check up and just
take care myself at home.

What traditional health care practices do you observe as you care for yourself and
your family?
Nowadays, we don’t have any particular tradition for health care practices in our family. We
seek medical care if needed and if not, we just recuperate at home with some usual
practices.

When someone is having a fever, we usually just perform a tepid sponge bath with an
acetaminophen medicine. For wound, we clean it with soap and water, thereafter
application of iodine and a bandage. For pain, if it is not bearable we just give the person an
available analgesic. For bruises we actually use ‘kutchay’ as an application.

We are not using tando, suma for bites but we go for vaccination. But for massage therapy,
it is widely believed to be used until now. For fractures (minor), dislocations, “mababa ang
matres”, and body pains.

For a more traditional specific sickness that is unknown and no cure that is believed to be
cursed. They usually call someone who specialize on the paranormal activity and perform
the ritual while butchering some specific animals like chicken or a pig.

How do you promote/maintain the cultural care needs of yourself/family/community?

To promote and maintain a safety by doing the the act of cultural care. We must be first
aware that some caring practices varies from other culture, medicine and own ancestral
cultures. With this, some practices may be dangerous and some maybe of better to use. In
short, cultural care is also going into drastic changes. And we must be wise enough to know
which to adapt, which to continue and which to change.

By having a proper awareness and information dissemination of safe cultural care. We will
promote a better and safe cultural care practice. And to maintain this safe cultural practices
is by passing it to other people or even to some other generations.
