INTRODUCTION
Fast Moving Consumer goods have been in existence since time immemorial
(Stengel act al 2001). In this chapter a review of what others have done have been
attempted. Fast moving consumer goods are so diverse that just a few areas have
been covered for the purpose of this study. The main areas covered in literature
review include the concept of promotion, objectives of promotion as well as
promotion strategies such as premium promotion, value promotion, penetration
promotion, cost-plus promotion and competitive promotion. Other factors covered
in the literature review include factors that may influence promotion such as
buyers, economic conditions, costs and government policies. A lot has also been
highlighted as far as fast moving consumer goods are concerned.
Country’s electronic products industry has reached USD 75 billion by 2017 from
USD 61.8 billion in 2015 with rise in penetration across consumer products,
especially in semi-urban and rural markets, says a report. The study undertaken by
Ascham and EY India noted that the government’s push for infrastructure
development, locomotive and energy, poses a significant opportunity for rapid
expansion of the domestic electronics industry. Electronic components industry in
India was valued at USD 13.5 billion in 2015, growing from USD 10.8 billion in
2013 at a CAGR of 11 per cent. The market is dominated by electromechanical
components such as PCB and connectors, which form 30 per cent of the total
demand, followed by passive components such as resistors and capacitors at 27 per
cent, the study pointed out.

Manufacturing labor cost


India’s attractiveness for manufacturers is growing due to the availability of low-
cost labor. Rising manufacturing costs in China and Taiwan are compelling
manufacturers to shift their manufacturing base to alternate markets. In 2014, the
average manufacturing labor cost per hour in India was USD 0.92 as compared to
USD 3.52 of China, noted the study. However, it said the Indian manufacturing
ecosystem for electronics and hardware industry is still at a nascent stage and faces
various demand side as well as supply side challenges are limited scale of
operations and local component demand due to the nascent product manufacturing
in India. Component demand in India is muted due to very limited value addition
as primarily last-mile assembly takes place. Norms such as safety regulations for
automotive, medical and industrial sectors have driven the uptake of electronic
content globally.

However, manufacturers in India do not add high electronic content in the products
due to limited industry-specific standards. The current market is dominated by
secondary sales and primary sales are limited due to reduced disposable income in
semi-urban and rural markets. Even as global markets are witnessing rapid
consumer uptake as electronic content increases across verticals (e.g., automotive
with applications around safety, connectivity, infotainment, consumer electronics,
smart homes, etc.); India has a slower adoption as consumers remain highly
sensitive to even a marginal increase in product promotions.

Importance of the study


The results of this study may benefit the following parties:
i. The fast moving consumer goods firms will be in a position to use the research
findings and recommendations from the study to develop better promotion policies.
ii. Manufacturers of other products will also benefit from the study as they will
know how their counterparts promotion their goods.

Research Design
It is a descriptive survey which investigated the extent to which the
retailors of electronic consumer goods and their promotion fixation is
concerned.

Data Collection method

Data is distinct information that is formatted in a special way. Data exists in a


variety of forms, like text on paper or bytes stored in electronic memory. Basically
Data is of two types i.e. Primary and secondary data. This project is confined with
secondary data.

Primary data
Data collected directly from source using interview, questionnaire or survey
method.

Secondary data
Data collected from sources like journal, newspaper, procure, manuals or
websites.

The data collected for this project is a form of secondary data as it is collected
from the respective firm’s product manual and promotion quotes

Data Analysis
Data analysis is done by comparing promotions of six segments of electronic
commodity such as washing machine, led tv, refregerators etc. graphical
presentation is made to understand the minute promotion differences.

Interpretation: From the above diagram and tabular presentation its clear that
the promotions of the products are identical however the promotion of 1.5 ton and 2
ton segment of patra electronics is lower than the GREAT EASTERN, otherwise 2
ton of Voltas and Lg and 1 ton of Samsung, LG and voltas of GREAT EASTERN is
lower than the patra electronics

All the interpretations of graphs in indirect speech

→: It was found out that in washing machine segment the promotions of patra
electronics is better than the GREAT EASTERN , particularly 6.5 & 8 k.g.
product.

→: It was found out that in Cooler segment the promotion of Y and Z segment in
