 Topic – Privileges of working women

Inductive research approach
The inductive research approach consists of three stages:

1. Observation
 There are no special privileges for women
 Women are not recognised for their hard work and multi-tasking
 In some places women are considered as weaker section and are
prone to high criticism
2. Observe a pattern
 Rights are given to women but they are not strictly followed
 Women are underestimated and mostly given desk jobs but not field
jobs
 Even if women work hard and give best performance  they are
always considered that due to multitasking they can't perform or
handle well
3. Develop a theory

Women has to be given special privileges such as

 Flexibility of work timings

 Work from home as and when required
 An Act for workplace verbal criticism. When most of the women
receive appreciation or promotion for their hard work, they are
criticized that it’s not because of their hard work.

Conclusion:

Women are multi-taskers. There are a lot of differences between men and women
both biologically and in society. A working woman has to handle the work pressure,
family pressure and society pressure but still she doesn’t give up her responsibilities
at any point of time. Though she gets drained both mentally and physically she is not
treated the same way as men are treated in some places. It is highly important
women are recognised for their hard work and handling mental pressure and are
given special privileges.
Deductive research approach
It is observed that women who are working in various institutions and at various
levels, get special privileges at work place and in family. However, women don’t
need special privileges but opportunity and platform to perform their skills to reaching
their goals in life.

The deductive research approach consists of four stages:

1. Start with an existing theory

o Working women get special privilege in society.
2. Formulate a hypothesis based on existing theory
o All women, who work in leadership roles, get special privileges in
offices and business.
3. Collect data to test the hypothesis
o Collect sample data of working women in leadership roles in offices in
different sectors.
4. Analyse the results: does the data reject or support the hypothesis?
o 25 out of 100 women working in leadership roles don’t get special
privileges in office or business = reject hypothesis

Conclusions:

Sample of women, with difference in degree, job level, industry, and global region,
have been interviewed and asked for the privileges offered to them. As an employee
benefit for caregivers (primarily women), flexible work arrangements are now an
effective medium to provide ease to attract women workforce, is not being practiced
on large scale in sectors like Construction & Oil & Gas. Women around the world
continue to face a wage gap. Working women often face racism & sexual
harassment, a unique set of challenges that intersect across race/ethnicity, gender,
and culture. Though plenty of people can become mentors for women but they also
need sponsors or who will give them distinctness, talk about their achievements
behind closed doors, and elevate them for extended opportunities. Even in 21st
century, women still get offered fewer of the hot jobs, mission-critical roles, and
international experiences that are important to reaching the highest levels of
leadership. In fact, women on average will need to work more than men and try
harder to prove their worth which becomes challenging managing career along with
personal priorities.

Abductive approach

Working women may not need special privilege at every point in time. It is completely
situation based as women have to perform differently at each phase of their life and
women leaders also need a specific position in the organization. Women can bring
love and motivation to work, therefore women are good in problem solving and
decision making skills. A special privilege may make their life easy but it can
deteriorate their identity in a professional environment.

Existing theory
 Every organization has given special privileges to women by the name of
women rights but it projects bias against women in our thoughts and actions.
 Social and cultural norms are barriers to women empowerment.

Probable conclusion based on theory
 Following predefined rights is itself a challenge because gender equality is
important and if women are asking for equal pay then why can’t they work
equally as men. If women can speak in a working environment, why can’t they
be bold enough to handle themselves? So, the value of women rights are
negligible if women leaders have power to manage personal and professional
goals.
 Women have to listen to society at some point of time and balancing
employment with household responsibilities is a challenge for women. Our
culture should embrace diversity and create an environment that provides
collaborative behaviour and equal opportunities for women.
