A survey is a method of collecting data about a group of people. When you conduct survey, you ask
questions and record the answers.
The following are the steps to conduct a survey and to organize the data to be collected.
STEP 1: Create a survey question. Write the questions on a record sheet as shown below.

STEP 2: List 4 or 5 options for the survey question on the record sheet.

STEP 3: Survey 20 to 30 people. Allow each person to give only one answer. Make a tally for
each answer. Then add the tally marks for each answer.

A frequency table lists the items being surveyed. It uses tally marks to show the number of times the
items occur in the survey.

Example: The grade 4 students were asked about their favorite breakfast meals. The pictures
below shows the representations of the choices of the students. Make a tally mark for
each choices. Add the tally marks and write the number on the frequency table.
A bar graph is the easiest way to show the comparison of the data.
