Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new 6 th grade math teacher for the
school year 2021. As a new member of staff at this Middle School, I am very excited to be given this
opportunity to work with such a key year group. I look forward to getting to know they year group over
the coming weeks and to helping your son or daughter to achieve greater things as the STAAR exam
approaches.

To give you some brief information about myself, I have worked in Texas schools for the past 5 years and
have undertaken roles including, lead teacher and lead senior academic tutor. Having worked both with
senior and entry-level staff, I believe I have developed the perfect skills to communicate well with all my
staff and supervisors to have an excellent running classroom. The year ahead I will have three classroom
procedures as my high priority which are the following: 1. Be on time for class, 2. Respect the teacher
and classmates, and 3. once in the classroom, begin assignments. The students will be taught these
procedures at the beginning of my class and will get in the habit of greeting me at the door, and
beginning their classwork once they step into my classroom.

There are some important pieces of information that I would like to share with you and kindly ask you
and your son/daughter to read through these before the first day of school.

Homework
A formal homework timetable for your son/daughter will be distributed on the first day of school.
Students in the year 2021 should be given approximately 50 minutes-1 hour of work per subject, per
homework set. We ask that you support your child, by regularly checking and signing their student
planner. I will be grading all homework and it will count as 10% of their overall grade. I will assign
homework at least 3 times a week.

Equipment
With the start of this school year, I will ask for your child to bring in the following materials to class every
day:
2 Black or blue writing pens
• 1 Pencil
• 1 Rubber
• 1 Sharpener
• 1 Ruler
• 1 Calculator
• 2 Coloured board markers (non-permanent)
• 1 Set of colouring pencils
• A selection of coloured highlighters

If you need to contact me, I have opened my classroom for afterschool activities from 4:00 PM – 5:00
PM.
