(a) Make b the subject of the above formula. (3 marks)

(b) If a and b are positive integers less than 10 , how many pairs of possible values of

6. In a polar coordinate system , O is the pole . The polar coordinates of the points A and B
are (15 , 327°) and (20 , θ) respectively, where 0 < θ < 90° . It is given that AB = 25 .

(a) Prove that ∆OAB is a right-angled triangle. (2 marks)

(b) Hence, find θ . (2 marks)

7. Given a set of distinct data : a , 5 , 7 , 8 , 10 , 13 , 12 + a where a is a positive integer.


The data are arranged in ascending order of magnitude.

10. When a polynomial p(x) is divided by x + 2 , the remainder is –81 . When p(x) is
divided by x – 1 , the remainder is 6 . Find the remainder when the p(x) is divided by
(2x – 2)(3x + 6) . (5 marks)

11. In a burger restaurant, the total cost $C of delivering n egg burger is the sum of two parts.

The first part varies as n and the second part varies as . The cost of delivering an egg

(a) Find the centre and radius of the circle. (2 marks)

(b) Denote the centre of the circle by C . Show that ∆ABC is a right-angled triangle.

(c) Hence, find the equation of the circumference of ∆ABC . (2 marks)

13. Figure X shows a vessel ABCDEFGH in the form of a right prism . The base ABCD of
the vessel is a square . ABGF and DCHE are trapeziums , where AB // FG and
∠ABG = 90° . It is given that AB = 24 cm , AF = 13 cm and EH = 29 cm.

(a) Find the capacity of the vessel. (2 marks)

(b) The base ABCD of the vessel is placed on a horizontal surface . A solid right
circular cone of height 16 cm is held vertically in the vessel. The base of the cone
just fits into the base ABCD of the vessel as shown in Figure Y . Now the vessel is
fully filled with water.

(i) Find the area of the wet curved surface of the cone in terms of π . (3 marks)

(ii) Find the volume of the water in the vessel , correct to the nearest cm³.

14. The bar chart and pie chart in the figure shows the distribution of the numbers of keys
owned by the students in class A. The numbers of students having 2 pens, 3 pens and 4
pens are 17 , 23 and n respectively.

(a) Find the value of n . (2 marks)

(b) Find the number of students in class A . (2 marks)

(c) Two students in class A has been selected. Find the probability that the total number
of pens does not more than 3 . (2 marks)

(d) It is given that the numbers of students in class A and class B are the same. The
distributions of the numbers of pens owned by the students in class A and class B
are also the same. The two classes are now combined to form a group. On each of
the bar chart and the pie chart in the figure , is there a modification needed in order
that the statistical chart can show the distribution of the numbers of pens owned by
the students in this group? Explain the modification needed if necessary. (3 marks)

15. The box-and-whisker diagram below shows the distribution of the scores of a group of
students in a M2 quiz.

And then, k marks are added to each student such that the new median increases by 25%
than the original median.

16. The following figure shows a triangular pyramid ABCD . The plane BCD lies on the
ground and B is the projection of A . Samuel found that AB = 18 cm , ∠ACB = 65° ,
∠ADB = 48° and ∠CAD = 50° .

(a) Find the angle between the plane ACD and the horizontal ground. (3 marks)

(b) Ives claims that the 300% of the shortest distance from B to the plane ACD is
smaller than that from A to the plane BCD . Does he correct? Explain your answer.

17. In the following figure. S 1 and S 2 are two circles which intersect at B and D . XY is
tangent to S 2 at C . A and E are points lying on S 1 while ABC and EDC are straight
lines.

18. Given that the equation of parabola Γ is y=23−8 x+ x 2 . Denote the vertex of Γ as V .

(a) Find the coordinates of V . (2 marks)

(b) Suppose the x-intercept and y-intercept of straight line L are 1 and –1
respectively. Suppose L is reduced k times along the x-axis and then it has been
translated downward by 1 unit to form the image J .

(i) Find the minimum value of k such that Γ and J intersects. (3 marks)

(ii) Let C be the intersection point between Γ and J . Suppose R is the


centroid of the triangle ∆OVC , where O is origin. Could the area of
rectangle with diagonal OR greater than 15 ? Explain your answer.

19. At the end of 2016, the population of a country is 7,000,000 . In subsequent years, the
number of births is r% of the population at the end of the previous year, where r is a
constant. Assume that 50,000 citizens leave the country through immigration every year. It
is known that at the end of 2018, the population of the country is 7,615,000 .

(a) (i) Find r . (2 marks)

(ii) Find, in terms of n , the population of the country at the end of nth year
after 2016. (3 marks)

(b) Suppose the tax paid in each year is $7×10 12 , however start from
2016, the amount of tax decrease by 25% each year. Will the total tax paid exceed

$3×10 ? Explain your answer. (2 marks)

(c) It is known the country provides economic support at the end of each year. However
there are 100,000(1.1025n+2 ) citizens at the end of nth year after 2016
does not for fill the requirement to claim the support. Start from when, such that
