TASK 5 : MAKE ACTIVITY REPORTS

Natural Methods Pest Control Training Activity Report

 Background
Agricultural activities are the key to food security in Indonesia. The advancement of the
agricultural sector is influenced by the maximum preparation and production process. In
Kelurahan Karang, all farmers have used modern methods to maximize agricultural
yields. However, the presence of planthoppers and grasshopper pests made crop yields
decrease.
So far, farmers use insecticides to eradicate these pests. However, the use of pesticides is
ineffective because grasshoppers experience resistance. The continued use of
insecticides can also affect the health of consumers. Therefore, proper handling of pests
is needed so as not to damage the quality of the harvest. One of the solutions offered is
to use natural predators.
 Aim
Helping farmers increase crop production.
Reducing the negative impact that insecticides may cause.
Introduce farmers to the latest pest control methods.
 Training Method
Training activities will be carried out with a face to face system directly.
 Time and place
Day, Date: Sunday, 29 March 2020
Place: Karang Village Hall, Sleman
 Training Participants
This training was attended by the Karang farmer group, Sleman. A total of 40 farmer
groups (chairman, committee members, group members) attended the training. Presented
by speakers from the Innovation Office. In addition, staff of the Karang Agriculture
Service were also present.
 Training materials
The natural methods for exterminating pests include an explanation of the types of pests.
Also explained the positive and negative impacts of using natural predators to eradicate
pests.

 Implementation of Activities
The implementation of the activity was slightly delayed because the resource person was
late in attending. In addition, practical activities in the field were also delayed because
the weather was not supportive. In general, farmer group participants already know the
ins and outs of natural predators to prey on pests in the fields.
 Closing
This training event was closed by distributing a manual for natural pest control.
 Conclusion
Pest eradication training activities have been running well despite obstacles during the
implementation process.
