My dear seniors and lovable batchmates, I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to

present my pitch. I feel, people at our age generally cry twice for themselves, first when they born and
second, when they leave their hostel. I was in boarding school since my childhood and then again lived a
successful hostel life in college, which made the hostel as my first home and gave me a strong sense of
all kinds of functionality and drawbacks. In my final hostel destination, I want to take a pro-active role
and lead the team in next one year, which is my inspiration for nominating myself in for the post of
Hostel and Mess secretary for the year 2021-22.

I have completed my schooling from a residential school of West Bengal, where I have interacted with
various kinds of people. I was hostel captain in my school. During graduation, I was in hostel for two
years and then I left due to personal reason. In my graduation, I was involved with Students’ Union
which gave me a huge experience of negotiating with administration. After negotiating with West Bengal
govt., we have changed our VC too as he was supporting illegal activities. I was one of the members of
the team who negotiated with West Bengal govt. other than this, I was elected as alumni committee
head in 3rd year.

During my stint with HMC, I am working in mess vertical where I am working on restructuring the menu
and suggested various options and the result you have seen in this week. We will try to hire more chefs
to make better north Indian foods. In addition, I’ll reopen the juice counter and introduce extra items
everyday with the help of qwickpay team. I believe that I have opportunity beyond my vertical also. I am
planning for 24*7 food facility for students irrespective of the mess service. In the stationery shop, i.e.
haneena, I am planning to include medical store too where you can get emergency medicines. In every
mid, I’ll install indoor sports arrangements like carrom or chess. I feel we both male and female need a
lesson of self-defense. I’ll arrange a training session where people can learn to defend themselves in
emergency situation.

After discussing with seniors, what I found that main reason for asking us to vacate hostel are non-
availability of mess service and hazard due to construction. I have a plan that if we seal the passage area
and make the exit towards new block then we can eliminate the hazards. I have talked to external
vendor who can provide packed foods. So, it will solve the non-availability of mess. In this scenario I can
take permission from admin to allow us to stay in the hostel.

When we will have offline classes and will be allowed to go outside, I’ll make a scooty point with yolo
rental service or zoom-car service. We need to do party in campus. But most of the time we lack
equipment. I’ll bring a store of Grab-on which offers all kinds of party equipment including bean bangs
and room decors in rent. I feel that our team bonding is not so strong. We have to work for a year
together. I am planning for internal events to strengthen our bonds.

I got to know that, in past years people got their mess bill transcripts. But in this year, we have not got
such things. I’ll discuss with Komla mam with the help of Dilshad and will figure out the issue. I have
heard that my seniors had paid 90k for the three terms but got 15k only. So I’ll give you the clarity of this
thing.

These are all the things which are on my priority list. I believe that Hostel and mess secy should be
someone who has the power of fighting back. We have our new admin and at this point we need a
person who can negotiate with all the unwanted rules which are imposed recently. I am looking forward
for your decision and I’ll respect it.
