The prince of King Brahmadatta

Long ago, in one strong country in the center of India now, King Brahmadatta got
married to many women, all of them born for the king, some children; but most of them
were born girls for the King. One day, King thought: ‘’ I’m going to be old; I should have a
son, so in the future he can replace me to control the country. Now I should pray to the
Gods’’. And In the morning of the next day, he ordered people to make a place to pray
and then he gathered all his wives to pray to the gods for getting a son.

Before long after that praying, the Queen got pregnant. Since the Queen was known to
get pregnant, she was taken care of everyday. Every person in the palace, including the
King, all his wives, and servers were extremely looking to see the birth of the prince.

When the Prince just was born, accepting his mother, he didn't want other women to
hold him. He often cried loudly when imperial maids held him. Therefore all imperial
maids and his step-mothers could not touch his body since then and until he became an
adult.

 The Prince gradually grew up, but he still did not want to see women and talk with
women. He also did not want to go around playing as other children did. He just stayed
in his room to read books and to spend time meditating. King Brahmadatta felt very
worried about his behavior, the King thought '' I have only one son, but he does not
want to become the future King of this country. What should I do now? He ordered all
his servants to find out the methods for this problem. They tried to apply many methods
with the hope that the prince would change his behavior, but the Prince did not change
his thinking.

One day, one beautiful girl was taken to meet the King. The girl was a singer and she
believed that she could attract all men easily by her beauty and her voice. King
Brahmadatta asked her to help Prince to join the life of an ordinary person. '' If you can
attract my son to be an ordinary person, then surely you will be the future queen'' King
said. '' Yes, Lord. Don't worry, I believe in my ability’’ said the girl

After talking with the King, The girl asked to know the room of the prince. She looked at
the room of the Prince carefully and properly and she whispered to guards of the
Prince's room '' Tomorrow I will come here and sing a song. If the prince feels annoyed,
let me know, I will go away; but if he likes my singing, please praise me to him''.   '' Ok''
answered quickly the guarders 

As planned, the girl came in front of the Prince; she chose a place that was neither far
nor too near the room of the Prince. Then she started singing and playing a kind of
instrument. Her elegant voice really attracted Prince. At first, he seemed not to be
attracted , but for a few minutes, he focused on just listening to the singing of that girl.
The girl kept singing in front of the room of the Prince for several days, and at the end
he asked the girl to come close to him to sing. Gradually the Prince fell in love with that
girl. He said to the guards '' I don't want other men seeing her''. 
One day, the Prince and that girl decided to leave the Palace; they did not want to live in
the palace; since the Prince wanted only him to see the girl. They went to the forest to
live there. They made a small, plain cottage to live in. Everyday they had to kill animals
or get fruit in the forest to have enough food for survival. One day, as usual, the Prince
went to the forest to get food; the girl, his wife, started cooking for their lunch. While the
girl was cooking, there was a monk, who got power and he was flying through the forest,
saw the smoke, then he got down and asked for a meal. During the time of offering the
meal for that monk, the beauty and the voice of that girl attracted that monk, his desire
relieved indeed. So after eating, the monk could not fly on, he lost his power. At that
time, the Prince came back; the monk ran away when he saw the prince come forward.
Prince thought '' he may be my enemy, he came here to attract my wife'', the prince took
a sword and ran following him. 

The monk ran to the shore, when he turned back, he saw the prince running him angrily.
He tried to use his power to fly on, but he could not fly on, and he fell down to the sea.
The prince looked  at the monk floating on the sea, and he could realize he was a monk.
He thought '' he is a monk, maybe when he talked with my wife, he was attracted by the
beauty of my wife and he lost his power, I have to help him''. Then the prince read a
verse:

By power of meditation

You came here by flying, not walking

But because of desire, you lost power

Sexual desire is very evil

It makes us be submerged into the sea of suffering

Let’s relinquish sexual desire 

As we have to avoid poison.

After hearing the verse, monk could get back his power and he filed on the sky

After that the prince took the girl back to the palace, and he went back to the forest to
practice meditation.

The prince in this story was the Buddha in the past life.
