VHF VSWR TEST PROCEDURE

NOTE: Comply with a l l normal s a f e t y precautions throughout these t e s t s .

wattmeter (eog. Bird 43) between coaxial cable and ik.

mace VHF directional coupler insart i n t o wattmeter with


arrow pointing towards the a e r i a l . This i s the forward
power position.

Switch on VHF, s e l e c t U8.0 MIz and a f t e r allowing time


f o r Tx t o warm up, transmit and read forward power on the
wattmeter .Record reading.

Release P t o T switch and reverse directional coupler so


t h a t arrow now points towards Tx. lhis i s the reverse
power position.

'bansmit and read reverse power. Record reading.

Repeat 2, 3 , h a n d 5 on 126.5 MElz and 135.975 Wz.

Disconnect wattmeter and reconnect coaxial cable to T x

Disconnect coaxial cable from base of VHF a e r i a l and connect


w a t t m t s r between coaxial feeder and a e r i a l .

Repeat t e s t s as f o r 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 above.

Disconnect wattmeter and re-connec t coaxial cable t o a e r i a l .

With figures recorded, a t Steps 3 and 4 substitute in the


formula:

Where PF = FORNARD POWER

PR = REVERSE PU4ER

below 5700 kg.
For "Airline Aircraft " above 5700 kg the m a x i m allowable
figure i s 2:l.

12. Repeat calculations using readings obtained for each
