Technical Activity 9

TITLE: Power Performance – Power Required at Sea Level and Altitudes

OBJECTIVE

To determine the power required by your designed aircraft at given altitudes.

PROCEDURE

9.1) Compute the power required of your designed aircraft.

9.1.1) Solve for stalling speed.

9.1.2) Solve for the required power on sea level, 5000 ft, 10000 ft., 15000 ft, 20000 ft, 25000 ft.

9.1.3) Graph the power required vs flight speed.

CONCLUSION

Given

Powerplant : RP-Rotax GmbH&Co.KG, Rotax 912 ULS2, 100 hp,

@5500 rpm

Gross Weight, GW : 2575.3168 lbs.

Wing Area, S : 160.20 ft2

CLmax : 1.69

Polar Drag Equation : (Clean Airplane)

Altitudes, h : Sea Level, 5000 ft, 10000 ft, 15000 ft, 20000 ft and 25000 ft

For Minimum Speed or Stalling Speed, Vmin / VS

W = Gross Weight = 2575.2970 lbs.

S = Wing Area = 160.20 ft2
