The graph of quadratic function is called parabola. It is the set of
all points on the Cartesian plane that satisfies the function defined by
standard form 𝑓(𝑥 ) = 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 and vertex form 𝑓 (𝑥 ) = 𝑎(𝑥 − ℎ)2 + 𝑘,
where (ℎ, 𝑘) is the vertex.
PROPERTIES
VERTEX (𝒉, 𝒌) −𝑏
ℎ=
- the turning point of the 2𝑎
parabola)
- the highest or lowest point of 4𝑎𝑐 − 𝑏 2
the graph) 𝑘=
4𝑎
DOMAIN
- set of all permissible values of set of all real numbers {ℝ}
the independent variable
RANGE
- set of all permissible values of
opens upward: {𝒚: 𝒚 ≥ 𝒌};
the independent variable and it
opens downward: {𝒚: 𝒚 ≤ 𝒌}.
depends on whether the
parabola opens
AXIS OF SYMMETRY
- the vertical line through the
vertex of the parabola that
𝑥=ℎ
divides the graph into two
parts such that one-half of the
graph reflects the other half
Opens upward and has a
minimum point when 𝑎 ≥ 0
