Position: Civil Engineer

Location: Auckland or Christchurch

Reports to: Team Lead


Purpose: To provide engineering consultancy services in the areas of civil
infrastructure and land development.

Key Responsibility Areas

Key Responsibility Area – Technical Capability


 Produce designs and models (using Autodesk software packages) and drawings for a
wide range of civil infrastructure projects.
 Develop and maintain expertise and knowledge over a wide range of work areas with
focus on civil infrastructure.
 Lead and contribute to the continued development and improvement of Civil3d,
Infraworks, Navisworks, CAD standards, drawing and BIM processes within the Civil
Infrastructure service line.
 Undertake civil design tasks for engineering works.
 Prepare estimates and schedules of quantities for projects.
 Prepare technical reports, specifications, tender documents, and requests for tender.
 Undertake construction management and supervision.
 Provide technical input into the planning of projects and assisting others to correctly
scope out projects, ensuring they have appropriate inputs and outputs and verification
activities.
 Undertake verification activities and participate in the technical reviews of projects.
 Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and
technical standards and practices together with effective Quality Assurance.

Key Responsibility Area – Project Management


 Perform Project Management duties and responsibilities in accordance with ‘Our Way”.
 Assist with the development of project briefs and estimation of fees when required.
 Prepare and regularly update project plans.
 Provide input into project teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within
budget and to the required quality. Ensure projects achieve the planned profit.
 Actively seek feedback from clients and project teams reflecting on the performance of
the team and apply knowledge learning principles.
 Regularly communicate with the client to ensure their expectations are met.
 Assist project team members to reflect on their performance and apply knowledge
learning principles.

 Ensure all assigned tasks are completed to a high standard and delivered on time.

quality and accuracy.

 Ensure that all projects and activities have an approved safety plan and that health and
safety issues are managed through the project plan.
 All aspects of the site and work will be completed and consistent with the agreed
Project Safety Plan.
 Identify appropriate training requirements for your role and participate in appropriate
training.
 Ensure that hazards arising from, or associated with project or activities undertaken are
identified, reported and managed including self-management where appropriate.
 Read and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures for Health and Safety including
the H&S Policy, H&S Manual, and Local Procedures Manual.

Person Specification
1 Qualifications/Experience  NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil), or equivalent.
 Bachelor in Engineering Technology (Civil), or
equivalent
 Current Drivers Licence.
 Minimum of eight years professional experience in
Civil engineering.
 Current Drivers Licence.

2 Skills  Strong organisational ability to optimise and prioritise


conflicting demands in a busy environment, to achieve
deadlines and see responsibilities through to completion.
 Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
 Good interpersonal and communication skills,
including oral and written communication and
particularly the ability to present ideas, information and
advice in a way that is understandable by a range of
audiences.
 Computer literate; proficient in Windows 7 or later,
MS Word/Excel and other Microsoft Office applications,
 Civil 3d, AutoCad, Navisworks, Infraworks, Revit, BIM
360, 12d and BIM experience.
 Competent Civil 3d AutoCAD user. (minimum of five
years preferred).
