The Importance of Health and Safety in the Workplace

After watching and traducing the video “Health and Safety in the

Workplace”, please answer the following questions:

1. What is the name of the presenter? The name of the presenter is Syd

2. What is the meaning of:

• No diving: No nadar o bucear

• No pushing: No empujar

• Watch out for falling objects: Cuidado con los objetos que pueden caer

• Don’t stand underneath or between big things that can squish

you: No pararse debajo o entre cosas grandes que puedan aplastarlo

• Hazardous: Peligroso

• Caution slippery surface: Precaución, superficie resbaladiza

• Safety harness must be worn: Debe usar arnés de seguridad

• Toxic fumes: Gases toxicos

3. What the author means by:

• Opening a window could be a potential hazard when not

considered properly: Syd means that a person can jump out of the window or fall out of the
window if they do not have the proper security

• Problems seldom go away they’re just replaced by new ones:

what the author wants to tell us is that danger will always exist, it is our duty to create processes
that allow us to stay as safe as possible

• WHS Laws: Workplace health and safety laws,

• The smarter we are the safer we become: By knowing the WHS laws, we can create processes
that keep us safe
• Think about the decisions we make today and the impact they’ll

have tomorrow: What the author wants to tell us is that the designs that we have today in the
WHS laws will impact our environment

4. What Happens to Mr. Plumped pies: Mr Pumpled was fired from his job because they thought
his pies made everyone sick, causing nausea and gas. But in reality it was the carpet that expelled
toxic gases because when the office was built, they did not have that precautionary measure

5. Please write a five lines short resume of the video and its main

message:

We must be aware of our actions to keep our workplaces safe. Although danger and risk always
exist, they can be minimized and controlled, through the design and compliance with WHS laws,
emphasizing the latter, compliance, because there is no use having the laws and breaking them.
We are also responsible for our safety and also for keeping our environment and others safe.

6. Please write one sentence in English for each warning sign

presented in the video.

1. Restricted area, no entry, authorised persons only.


2. Go slow, no running in the pool area.
3. Caution slippery Surface, beware of snow and rain.
4. No diving! Shallow water. Diving may cause death or permanent injury.
