II. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:

The past six years has been a dramatic shift in the Philippine education with the
implementation of the K to 12 system, the goal of which is to develop holistic learner
who have mastered content and are equipped with 21st century skills of critical
thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. For learners to be proficient at
these, it is imperative to equip their teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills
on the teaching strategies and technologies that are aligned with the framework of the
Department of Education’s K to 12 curriculum.

The school principal and other school leaders recognize that highly effective
teaching is the key to improving student learning throughout the school. They take a
strong leadership role, encouraging the use of research-based teaching practices in all
classroom to ensure that every student is engaged, challenged and learning
successfully.

LEEP is a tree-day program that seeks to enable the teachers and school heads
to more effectively operationalize and contextualize k to 12 concepts in the classroom
sessions using learning pedagogies and Knowledge Channel’s educational media and
technologies (installed in an external hard drive which was distributed to each
participating school for more effective learning.

III. OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of this activity is to train participants to shift mindsets and


transform classrooms into 21st century learning environments that are highly learner-
centered. The training aims to help teachers develop 21 st century skills of learners
which are essential to their citizenship, work life and continuous life-long learning.
With the training, the teachers and principal will learn the following:
a. Effective application of teaching strategies toward a learner-centered
environment;
b. Equip the teachers with necessary skills to ensure that their teaching
approaches, the technologies and multimedia learning resources they use, and

the teaching environment where the learners are active participants in their
own learning and where their growth is continuous.
c. Effective application of teaching strategies toward a learner-centered
environment, effective integration and use of multimedia learning resources
(Knowledge Channel’s videos, games, session guides, etc) in classroom
instruction adherent to teaching content and pedagogies of the K to 12
curriculum.

and technology.
