 CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the background of the study, theoretical framework,

conceptual framework, the statement of the problem, the significance of the study, and

the scope and delimitations of the study.

Background of the Study

Editing is generally considered one aspect of the post-production process. Other

post-production activities include titling, color correction, sound mixing, and so on. The

process of modifying and rearranging video shots to produce a new work is known as

video editing. On the other hand, the altering of images is referred to as photo editing.

Images can be digital pictures, illustrations, prints, or film photographs. Some forms of

editing are done by hand, like airbrushing, while others are done with photo editing

software such as Photoshop, Gimp, and Microsoft Paint. Due to the development of

editing skills in social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, photo

and video editing has become a popular marketing language.

According to Jones (2013), over the past 20 years, digitally altering images using

photo-editing software has become increasingly common in traditional forms of mass

media. It indicates that the digital photo editing should be upgrade to an unusual one.

And use it as an advantage to overcome the other competitors in terms of digital photo

editing. It will be continuous and serve as the new era for digital photo editing. In other

words, digital photo editing and style improves from time to time. Photo editing is an art
of enhancing a certain image to make it look more pleasing to the eyes that can be

shared in the social media to gain likes and feedbacks of other people.

There are many different photo editing tools that can be used for basic editing.

Some of these photo editing tools are White Balance, Contrast, Clarity, Saturation,

Sharpening, and Brush tool. White Balance helps in regulating temperature and tint so

that colors are correct. Contrast is the distinction of the light and dark parts of a photo

that helps in making dark colors darker and bright colors brighter. Clarity tunes the

contrast but focuses more on the middle tones of an image that enhances texture and

brings a small amount of grittiness. Saturation centers on the color information in the

photo by heightening the more muted colors in a photo. Sharpening is a practice in

which digital images are given a sharper appearance. A Brush tool is used to paint an

image with the selected color and can also eliminate blemishes. (Master Class, 2020).

As stated by Santiago (2017), there are no limits to the effects that can be

achieved with photo editing on a simple picture. You have the power to turn the boy

next door into a Hollywood star. You can use the colors of paradise to bring a simple

landscape to life. With photo editing, you can make any event look and sound more

vibrant and enjoyable. You can also use color to bring your old black-and-white images

to life.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the problems that the photo and video editing

services may encounter during its operations and the corresponding solutions to these
as well. Through this, the researchers will be able to learn how to address these

problems in order to provide quality service to the customers.

Specifically, sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the factors that will ensure customers' satisfaction?

2. What are the potential internal problems that the business may encounter?

3. What are the possible solutions to these internal problems?

Scope and Delimitations

The focus of the research is to know the experiences of Grade 12 Accountancy,

Business and Management (ABM) students from the Technological Institute of the

Philippines (TIP) on their usage of Photo and Video Editing Services. The researchers

randomly selected six (6) students regardless of their gender from ABM Sections in AM

Shift who are usually availing the Photo and Video Editing Services. Moreover, the

study shall be conducted with the scope of the school year 2020-2021.

Significance of the Study

The researchers believed that this study provided with important and useful facts

shows the editing of images and videos of the wholesome studio. This study gives

importance to the following:

Entrepreneurs. This research provides a better idea for the business owners who plan

to establish a photo and video editing service. Through this study, entrepreneurs will

gain valuable information about industry trends, who their potential competitors are, and
which consumers they should target. This will serve as a useful source of information

regarding the building and managing of this kind of business.

Aspiring Editors. This study will help these aspirants to acquire more knowledge

regarding photo and video editing. This research study will help them formulate

methods and techniques that are suitable to their learning styles. The knowledge that

they will acquire from this research will contribute to the improvement of their editing

skills.

Future Researchers. The final manuscript of the study entitled “An Exploratory Study

about the Wholesome Studio” will be accessible to the researchers that focuses on

photo and video editing. This research can be their guide or reference to support their

findings.
