Description of roles and responsibilities

 Reviewing job cards (work orders), specifying spare parts requirements and initiating
requisitions for approval by work shop managers or Superintendents
 Supervising the routine repair and maintenance of haulage tractors in accordance with the
assignment schedules and to check all completed work
 Providing technical guidance and advice to technicians and artisans as when requested
 Keeping proper records of completed work after inspection, pending and new work and
report daily to the Superintendent and the work shop managers
 Checking and inspecting new received spare parts in the main store, accepting or
rejecting before it is delivered to motor stores
 Checking the attendance and punctuality of staff, controlling and disciplining them and
assisting them in their performance appraisal
 Ensuring that adequate safety precautions are in place and maintaining a clean working
environment in the work shop
 Ensure haulage equipment availability is maintained to over 75 percent at most times
 Preparation of monthly and annual budget and Control movement of spare parts and
records where necessary
 Advice on any spare parts requirements, and assist in setting stock level
 Ensure subordinates work efficiently and productively at all times
 Assist in development, building of subordinates, and advising workshop manager on
special training needs
 Advice company top management on fleet depreciation & replacement opportunities
when appropriate
 Ensure discipline of support staff is maintained at all times, reporting any concerns to the
workshop manager
