INTRODUCTION OF STUDY AREA

1 INTRODUCTION
This research work is dedicated to finding the prospects of oil and gas in Fort Abbas area.
Plenty of research work has been conducted over the area. We did try to search out the flaw and
loopholes which had left in the previous research works. During the research work we faced
material scarcity along with limitations. But we managed to employ with available sources and
finally achieved the given task.
To make the study easy for readers this work is divided in 6 chapters. Chapter 1 deals
with ‘Introductory Prospects’ of the research work. It also deals with location of study area.
Chapter 2 highlights the ‘Geological Settings’ of the study area. Chapter 3 includes ‘Stratigraphy
and Petroleum Prospects’ of the study area. Chapter 4 talks about the ‘Seismic Data Acquisition
and Processing’. Chapter 5 consists of ‘Seismic Data Interpretation’. Chapter 6 concludes the
research work with thorough recommendations and suggestions.

1.1 LOCATION OF STUDY AREA

The Fort Abbas exploration License covering an area of 7040 sq. Kms in Bahawalpur and
Bahawalnagar Districts of Punjab Province. The Exploration License was granted to OGDCL on
June 02, 1992 for an initial period of three years. OGDCL drilled Fort Abbas-1 (28o 58′ 31.27′′N
and 72o 41′ 53.52′′E), in 1994 to explore the potential reservoirs in the region.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF RESEARCH PROJECT
The aim of the study was to interpret the hydrocarbon potential in the deep reservoir of
Fort Abbas area by:
 To study surface geology of the area.
 Delineate subsurface geology by interpretation steps as under:
 Solve velocity functions
 Reflector identification.
 Calculate depth of target horizon.
 Time Maps.
 Depth Maps
