Good day learners!

I am teacher Diane, your teacher in TLE-Food and Beverage Services
Prepare all the things that we need as we go on with our lesson. (module, answer sheet, ballpen and your
handkerchief or a table napkin) Brace yourselves as we learn more things about Food and Beverage Services.

I have here a sun diagram and I want you to think of a word that comes into your mind when you hear the
word Table Napkin. You write your answer on the space provided on your answer sheet. There will be no
wrong answer so write as many as you can.

(isn’t it that if you hear the word table napkin you think one or more of these words?)

Let us have another activity. For those who can access the internet you can copy the link on the top and enjoy
playing the game on the internet. And for those who can not access the internet, the activity is on the answer
sheet.

Ok so the instruction is, Search the words that are given in the box. Choose a familiar word based from what
you have search and describe it. Write your answer on your answer sheet

B. Presentation
So, today our lesson is all about table napkin folding.

Okay, so we are expected to:

 define napkin folding,
 discuss the history of table napkin folding,
 follow and demonstrate the different styles of table napkin folding and
 appreciate the importance of table napkin folding in food and beverage services.

As we go deeper into our discussion let’s define first the word napkin folding.

What is napkin folding?

Napkin folding is a type of decorative folding done with a napkin. It can be done as an art or as a hobby.
Now a days, napkins are also as creative and imaginative decoration elements.

Did you even know its history?

I have here a time-line for us to be able to know more about the history of table napkin.
TABLE NAPKIN FOLDING

 1400s - napkin began in Europe

 1800s - the era when the folding of napkins as decoration started
 1861 - first book that had an extensive reference section of napkin folding
by Mrs. Beeton’s book of Household Management
 1950s - decorations and creativity flowed again reviving the art of folded
napkins as a means of expression
 1980s - the James Ginder book on napkin folding, first published by Virtue in
over 54 languages have become more reluctant to use napkin folding as
In the beginning they only use it as a protection for their dresses of their period of sumptuous meals and to
part of the table
wipe their mouth to remove dirt. But now a days they also use it as a creative and imaginative decoration
element on the set-up.

So, let’s proceed on how to fold different styles of table napkin. But before that why do we need to put
designs in our table napkin?

Because it is one way of boosting the appetite of the guest and as we all know our eyes are the windows of
everything. Not only that but it also adds elegance to the set-up.

So last meeting I asked you to research on the different styles of table napkin fold.

Today I will show you how to fold the different styles of table napkin fold.
But before that I just want to remind you that as you press your napkin, make sure that you use the back of
your hand and make sure that it is clean and if possible, your napkin should be ironed.

Ok first is the FOLDED PLEATS

1. Lay the napkin and fold in half diagonally.

2. Fold the right corner of the napkin over to the left.
3. Fold the right side of the napkin towards the left until the desired necktie shape is formed on the
napkin.
(Video)
You can add flowers on top or side of the folded napkin if you want to make it more beautiful.

The occasion best suited for this style of napkin fold is Father’s Day, Father, uncle and Brother’s Birthday.
This is used to hold utensils such us dinner fork, dinner spoon or any flatware that is fitted to the napkin fold.

3rd HOLIDAY CROWN OR BANANA BLOSSOM

Holiday crown or banana blossom has a little pocket so you can add decorative picture, flower or ribbon.

This type of table napkin fold can be placed on the plate.

4th SPEAR

There we have it, the first four style of table napkin folds.

C. Generalization
Based on our lesson, we have learned about table napkin folding, the history of table napkin folding and
different styles of table napkin folding namely FOLDED PLEATS, NECKTIE, HOLIDAY CROWN OR
BANANA BLOSSOM, and SPEAR.

In that case may we try to answer this Sequencing Activity (for those who have internet connection at home
they can copy the link and paste it on GOOGLE search and enjoy playing)

So, what is the importance of table napkin folding in food and beverage services?
* It is used for decoration.
* To protect the clothes from stain.
* It adds elegance to the table setting.

If we attend occasions such as birthdays, debut or wedding we should discipline ourselves in the sense that
we should PRACTICE CLEANLINESS AND ORDERLINESS at all times. Because cleanliness is next to
orderliness.

D. Application
I think you are now ready for another activity.

Are you excited?

Ok so this time it is your turn to fold the different table napkin style.

Are you ready? But before that, may I just remind you again, as you press the napkin make sure to you use
the back of your hands to keep the cloth or fabric clean and dirt free.

So, this are the instructions. Let us all do this activity because this will be recorded as a Performance Task.
1. Using a table napkin or handkerchief, take a video of yourself performing the four style of table
napkin folds that were demonstrated by the teacher.
2. Submit the video not later than 12:00 PM tomorrow.
3. Send video through FB or Gmail.
