Summer of play
June has passed us quickly! Already halfway through
our summer program. Please be sure to join us for our
fourth of July parade, and mark July 25th on your
calendar for our midsummer historical Independence
Day exhibits.

Come out and read Independence Day Study

Our class is hosting a Come Out and Read
night! Students are encouraged to wear their
pajamas and get comfy on our big pillows as
they enjoy a story with their parents or
siblings!
What’s happening in our class?!
As the summer program continues to
progress, we are continuing to work on letter
recognition and letter sounds! These are
stories we will use in class, feel free to
check them out from the library to reinforce
these concepts at home!

July, as we all know is the month of
Independence Day, so this month our
students will learn about the many people
who worked and fought so hard for our
independence from Great Britain. To
continue to encourage our students to read
we will be using the following books as part
of our study:
Red, White, and Boom, By Lee Wardlaw and
Huy Voun Lee
The Fourth of July Story, By Alice Dalgleish
and Marie Nonnast
John, Paul, George, and Ben, By Lane
Smith
The class will work together to create an
exciting display of historical facts and to put
on a play of our first celebration as
Americans! Look for more information in
the next letter home!

Throughout the progression of this program, we have strived to show how

important of a skill reading is, and together we can continue to increase your
child’s reading skills to better prepare them for the coming years in school. Please
do not hesitate to reach me if you have any concerns or would like to find new
ways to make reading fun and exciting for your child.
