Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
The key points to remember during this Covid 19 pandemic, first we should do
Grounding it means ground yourself during emotional storms by noticing your thoughts
and feelings, slowing down and connecting with your body by slowly pushing your feet
into the floor, stretching and breathing, and then refocusing and engaging with the world
around you. Second is Unhook yourself notice that a difficult thought or feeling has
hooked you. Realize that you are distracted by a difficult thought or feeling, and notice it
with curiosity. Silently name the difficult thought or feeling; Refocus on what you are
doing. Pay full attention to whoever is with you and whatever you are doing. Third is
acting on our values, choose the values that are most important to you, then pick one
small wat that you can act according to these values in the next week. What will you
do? What will you say? Even tiny actions matter! And Lastly be kind Notice pain in
yourself and others and respond with kindness. Unhook from unkind thoughts by
noticing and naming them. Then, try speaking to yourself kindly. If you are kind to
yourself you will have more energy to help others and more motivation to be kind to
others, so everyone benefits.

Mr. Darwin Angcahan, RRT, MHPEd

Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
Topic: Handling & Coping mechanism on working overtime during the COVID-19
pandemic

COVID-19 pandemic causes an increase in the stress level fir Radiologic Technologists
around the world, with Radiologic Technologists exhibiting workload-related stress
resulting from taking care of patients and stress resulting from receiving more patients.
Further, every medical worker specially RT has a strong perseverance, how they handle
each patient and how they endure tiredness, stress and many more. Managing all the
task or job to be done properly and professionally is one of the challenged during this
pandemic. Decision making and execution must still be on top of their league

Ms. Winnie Cancejo, RRT, MPH

Our speaker has earned her Master’s in Public Health, and is currently finishing
Masters in Education Major in School Leadership, as well as her Doctors degree in
Philosophy Major in Science Education. At present, she is the president of society of

Affairs at the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines International School of Asia and
the Pacific in Cagayan

Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
This pandemic also disregarded the age, gender and social status, in short everyone is
being affected. People who are suffering from depression are not blunt about it they
tend to hide it. There are four signs of depression 1 st Lack of Interest and pleasure in
daily routine and activities, 2nd Significant weight loss or gain, 3rd Insomnia or excessive
amount of sleep, and Lastly feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt. Signs of
Anxiety first we feel restlessness and irritability second difficulty in concentrating, having
sleep problems and generally feeling on edge. Because of this sign we should start to
know the importance of talking about mental health like Breaking the stigma, to
understand, to improve relationships with ourselves and others, to create a harmonious
environment. Let’s start to have a mindset, we have to balance positive thinking and
negative thinking. We should also remember that prayer is the best weapon when we
are encountering depression.

Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
Interns basically don't have a license to protect, if they commit Injury or harm to a
patient they are technically not going to be jailed but the registered professionals itself
because they are the one who contains a license. We have four legal elements to be
proven when committing a malpractice; Duty, Breach, Injury, and Proximate causation.
In my own experience I always remind the interns to remember that yes you’re here to
apply what you learned in school here in the hospital but that is not an excuse to make
the patient feel that they are being experimented like a Guinea pig that is why we only
allow minimal mistakes for the interns because repetitive mistakes could lead to the
registered professionals license removal. That is why we need to study R.A 7431,
because it will be our guidelines when we already have a license.

FOURTH YEAR REFLECTIONS

16
Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
Radiologic Technologists Ethical Dilemmas in the Age of Dilemmas

We gained a better understanding from Mr. Darwin’s lecture about the ethical dilemmas
faced by Radiologic Technologists. It is true that the COVID-19 pandemic has a huge
impact to the radiology workforce but as a Radiologic Technologist, you have a
professional commitment and responsibility to nurture those who are in need even if it
means putting yourself at a higher chance of risk. These are when ethical dilemmas
take effect in which you aren’t sure on how you’ll precisely deal with the situation but
must still consider an equal amount of risk that our colleague and other medical
professionals encounter as well. We have learned that when you find yourself faced
with an ethical dilemma, it is alright to discuss it with your colleague to find a functional
way and right action for the condition.

The speaker discussed about the importance of mental health to all people especially
this pandemic. Taking care, the mental health is the major key to keep away the
medical workers to mental problems. Having an overworked medical employee can
cause poor work performance the tech no longer has an adequate amount of time to
properly see to the full needs of the patient that can result to poor patients’ feedback or
negative comments taking care the patients

Handling and Coping Mechanism in Working Overtime During The Pandemic

In our previous seminar, the thing that really struck my mind is our topic on the ethics of
being a Radiologic Technology. As we all know, all professions have a role to achieve.
But as humans, we do make mistakes and sometimes we just couldn’t control it. There
are rules and ethics in being a Radiologic Technologists that we should abide in order to
not lose our license.

Sometimes we go over the board and lie about little things, for example, in repeating a
procedure. In order to be able to repeat exposure, we would tell the patient that it is their
fault, but it was us who made the mistake. If its possible employers should talk to their
employee to voice their reasons so that it can be properly solve. We should understand
that are physical and mental health is very important for our body to properly function
and very capable to work. Minimizing out overworking antics because our body need
rest should be the priority. We do things to protect our license. we need to accept the
fatigue that feel because we are becoming tired and we want to get rid of it. Grounding,
pushing our feet to the floor, and turn adversity into an opportunity to prove that we are
more than a Rad Tech.

17
Webinar Building resilience during COVID 19 pandemic
Light Amidst Pandemic: A Mental Health Awareness

We know how difficult it has been for everyone enduring the setbacks brought about by
the COVID-19 pandemic and of the quarantine to prevent further transmission of
COVID-19. Many people haven’t been able to work or have lost their jobs, some may
have had difficulty going back to their home provinces or are impacted by the loss of
loved ones or are separated from loved ones. This continues to be an especially
stressful time. Even though we are facing this kind of pandemic, don’t lose hope. We
need to take care of ourselves as well to others and the people we love.

Remember that every situation we are facing, there’s always positivity. We must learn
how to value ourselves and others also. Someone in the community, workplace, family
or circle of friends, or even you may be feeling hopeless, isolated, and feeling they have
no reason to live. With compassion and understanding for others, we can recognize the
signs and educate ourselves how to access help. We all have a critical role to aid others
by socially connecting with affected people and connecting people to mental health
services or medical care.

Malpractice in Radiologic Technology Internship

Malpractices in Radiologic Technology Internship, as a group we understand the

discussion in our own profession as Radiologic Technologists. First and foremost, we
gathered information that we didn’t have much idea in that certain topic because we
don’t have much yet experience and knowledge about that. In the field of medical, some
may commit error but as much as possible it should perform exact and precise
especially to rad techs. Even though, we knew that if we have a mistakes or error
Ma’am Roan as our speaker said we need to understand the consequences and we are
responsible of the error/fault and should learn from that lesson so that it wouldn’t
happen again.

We should not tolerate Malpractice because we are aware of the risks/circumstances of

Malpractice in our future career as a Radiologic Technologists, at first, we collect
information from others about the said topic because we don’t have that much idea and
experience yet. And I believe that we can avoid it if we keep proper medical records of
all tests and counseling. Develop trusted connections with our patients and particularly
in our chief techs. Also establish good patient caregiver relationship because patients
expect a quality medical care from us. Not all fresh rad techs are well oriented in the
field. There are some possibilities that they might have done wrong in a procedure, we
all make mistakes and in each and every mistake that we made there is a lesson behind
that, we need to face the outcome because it’s our duty and responsibility
