Time: 120 min. No electronic devices are allowed to use (tablets, smart phones,
iPAD, laptops,…), except simple calculators

1. Given B= - (100 rc) aΦ [Wb/m2] (in cylindrical coordinates) in a region of free

space.
a/ Find the current density vector J
b/. Find the total current I crossing the surface 0≤ rc ≤ 1, 0≤ Φ ≤ 2π, z= 0 and compare

the current with the integral ∮ H . dl along the circle circumference C of rc= 1, z= 0?

2. The bar conductor parallel to the y axis (Fig 1) completes a loop by sliding contact
with the conductors at y= 0 and y= 0.05 m.

a/. Find the induced voltage when the bar is stationary at x= 0.05 m and B= 0.3sin104t
az [T].

b/ Repeat for a velocity of the bar U= 150ax m/s.

square conductor current loop
when immersed in the B field of
a current-carrying filamentary
conductor of infinite length
along the z axis, as shown in Fig
2. Assume that I1= 15 A and
I2= 50 A.

4. A conductor of length l lies along the x axis with current I in the ax direction. Find
the work done in turning it at constant speed, as shown in Fig 3, in the uniform filed
of B= Boaz ?

5. Find the capacitance between the inner and outer curved conductor surfaces (Fig 4) in
ε(outer radius). Find the numerical value of capacitance C in pF, when l= 60 mm, α=
30o, r1 = 20 mm, r2 = 25 mm, εr= 5.5, εo= (1/36π).10-9 F/m

6. A single circular loop of wire of radius R = 0.24 m carries current I = 0.4 A, and is
oriented as shown in the diagram (Fig 5). A constant magnetic field points along the
negative y-direction having magnitude B = 0.7 T. To begin with, the loop is fixed in
space.

a/. What is the torque T, acting on the loop?

b/. Now the loop is released. A short time later, it has rotated a little bit. Which of the
following figures (Fig 5 a/ and Fig 5 b/) shows the orientation of the loop a short time
later? (The dashed line
shows the original position
of the loop.)
