Educational Issues Presentation

Rationale:
The Educational Issues Presentation is designed to help you (a) learn more
about current educational research and issues facing teachers today, as well to
develop and assess your ability to (b) analyze, interpret, and communicate
information, and (c) work collaboratively with others. School districts need new
teachers who can work in collaborative teams, and collaborative teamwork skills
will be crucial for your success in the education program, for getting a teaching
job, and for becoming a successful teacher in today's classrooms.
Description:
You and a partner will choose a topic from presentation topics discussed in class,
those listed in the ED 2500 Handbook, or those on the Curr Lab site. Your twenty
to thirty minute presentation will draw upon a minimum of three recent
professional books or articles and will describe how current ideas and issues in
education relate to classroom practice.

You and your partner are expected to share the work involved in researching,
preparing, planning and delivering the presentation in a cooperative and
equitable fashion. The presentation will incorporate the following:

During the first 10/15 minutes:

• A summary of some key ideas regarding the issue

• Some implications for K-12 teaching (link the key ideas to the practical
classroom)

During the second 10/15 minutes:

• An activity or activities that provide an opportunity for your peers to process

and apply the key ideas and implications (e.g., class discussion, small group
discussion, panel, debate, role play, educational game, etc.—use your creativity
and imagination)

• Provide a handout: an executive summary of the main points of your

presentation for the class, including a reference list in correct APA format
