Lesson Plan in Grade 7

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 Identify the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and its
sources.
 Identify the human activities that contributed greenhouse
gases.
 Describe global arming and its relationship to greenhouse
effect.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Topic: Sources of Greenhouse Gases
 References: Science 7 Book (Learner’s guide, pp. 320-321)
(Teacher’s guide, pp. 304-306)
 Materials: Visual Aids, pictures, and chalk

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
- Prayer
- Greetings
- Attendance
- Review
- Motivation:
The students will be ask the following questions:
 Is the Earth temperature normal today?
 Compare the temperature we are experiencing
right now particularly at 8:00 AM between the
temperature last 2010.
 What will happen to the Earth’s temperature after
5 years from now?

B. Lesson Proper

I. ACTIVITY
“Picture Analysis”
To do this,The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each
group will be given pictures by the teacher and they are task to
write down their ideas and have one representative to present
their output in front. (7-10 min).

II. ANALYSIS
February 26, 2019

In connection to such activity, the teacher will ask the

students some questions which are as follows:
1. What happen to the Earth on the Human Enhanced
Greenhouse Effect? Is it getting warmer?
2. Why is it that Earth becomes much warmer in Human
Enhanced Greenhouse Effect? Are greenhouse gases
responsible for it?
3. The increasing temperature on Earth will lead to what
phenomenon?

III. ABSTRACTION
Sources of Greenhouse Gases:
 Carbon dioxide - Naturally produced when people
and animals breathe. It is also a result from burning
fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gases.
Another cause of carbon dioxide is deforestation.
Cutting down and burning of trees releases Carbon
dioxide.
 Methane - Comes from grazing animals as they
digest their food from decaying matter in wet rice
fields. They are also produced through agricultural
practices. It can be released also from buried
waste. For example, the left-over food, garden
wastes and animal wastes collected from our homes
are thrown into dump sites. When lots of waste are
compressed and packed together they produced
methane.
 Nitrous oxide - Occurs naturally in Earth’s
atmosphere as part of nitrogen cycle. It is a product
of wide variety of natural sources and human
activities-agriculture, fossil fuel combustion, waste
water management and industrial process.
 Ozone - Is also naturally present in the
stratosphere.

Another group of greenhouse gases includes

the chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's. It has been
used In spray cans as propellants, in refrigerators as
refrigerants and making foam plastics as foaming
agents. They become dangerous when released into
the atmosphere, depleting ozone layer. For this
reason, their used has been banned around the
world.
Human activities have emitted greenhouse
gases into the atmosphere increasing their levels to
quantities that have adverse effects on people,
plants, animals and physical environment. Burning
fossil fuels has increased levels of Carbon dioxide
thus trapping more heat, increasing air temperature,
and causing global warming. A global warming is
the increase in global atmospheric temperature due
to the increase greenhouse gases while ozone
depletion means the reduction of ozone molecules in
the stratosphere.

IV. APPLICATION
The teacher will ask the students the following questions:
 As a student, what can you do that can help reduced
the increasing of greenhouse gases particularly
carbon dioxide?

IV. EVALUATION

IDENTIFICATION (¼ sheet of paper).

1. Is the increase in global atmospheric temperature due to the

increase greenhouse gases. GLOBAL WARMING
2. Is the reduction of ozone molecules in the atmosphere.
OZONE DEPLETION
3. It is also a result from burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and
natural gases. CARBON DIOXIDE
4. Comes from grazing animals as they digest their food from
decaying matter in wet rice fields. METHANE

5. Occurs naturally in Earth’s atmosphere as part of nitrogen

cycle. NITROUS OXIDE

V. ASSIGNMENT
In a ¼ sheet of paper.
Research on what are the actions of the Government in the
Philippines in reducing the production of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere. Give at least two.
