III- PROCEDURE
A. Review
1. What is greenhouse?
2. What are greenhouse gasses?
3. What is greenhouse effect?

B. Motivation
The teacher will ask the following questions.
1. What is Global warming?
2. What will happened when the earth getting to much heat?
3. What are the possible causes of Carbon Dioxide?

C. Discussion

Activity
The teacher will post pictures on the board; each student will going to identify what
pictures tell about.
Sources of Greenhouse Gases
Carbon dioxide is naturally produced when people and animals breathe. Plants
and trees take in and use carbon dioxide to produce their own food. Volcanoes also
produce carbon dioxide. Methane comes from grazing animals as they digest their food
from decaying matter in wet rice field.

Based on the graph, in what year has the most significant increase in carbon
levels? Does burning of fossil fuels raise the carbon dioxide concentration in the
atmosphere? Which fossil fuel has the highest contribution to carbon dioxide
concentration in the atmosphere? What human activities use these fuels? List at least
three.
Main Sources of Carbon Dioxide

1. Stationary energy consumption (eg: power station)

-Coal fuelled power generation is the worst culprit for carbon Dioxide
emissions.
-oil and gas fuelled energy generation tends to have a lower carbon dioxide
emissions due to its high use, still accounts for about half of the human caused
CO2 emissions.
2. Transportation
-globally, transport related emissions of the carbon dioxide are growing
rapidly. The use of petroleum as a fossil fuel for transportation dominates. carbon
dioxide emissions from this source.
Recall on the module 1. What kind of fossil fuels are used in the
Philippines? Are we also contributing to the increase in carbon dioxide
concentration in the atmosphere? Why or why not?
Carbon dioxide comes from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, crude
oil and natural gas. Cutting of down and burning of trees releases carbon dioxide,
Methane can also be releases from buried waste. For example, the left –over food,
garden wastes and animals wastes Collected from our homes are thrown into
dumpsites. When lost of wastes are compressed and packed together, they
produce methane. Coal mining also produces methane.
Another group of greenhouse gases includes the chlorofluorocarbons or
CFCs for short. CFCs have been used in spray cans as propellants, in
refrigerators as refrigerators, and in making foam plastics as foaming agents.
They become dangerous when release into the atmosphere, depleting the ozone
layer. Burning of fossil fuels, for example, has increase levels of carbon dioxide
thus trapping more heat, increasing air temperature, and causing global
warming.
GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warning
-is the increase of the Earth’s average surface temperature due to build-up of
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warning refers to an average increase in the
Earth’s temperature, which in turn causes changes in the global climate.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
 Pollution from coal, natural gas, and oil
 Carbon dioxide from airplanes and vehicles
 Population increase
 Deforestation
 Burning fossils fuels
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
 Melting of glaciers
 Polar bear extinction
 Warmer water and more hurricanes
 Increase probability and intensity of drought

Rising of sea level increase temperature Habitat Damage and

species increases
Analysis
The teacher will ask the students about the following questions
1. What are the sources of carbon dioxide?
2. What are the causes of Global warming
3. What are the effects of Global warming?
IV. EVALUATION
Test l.

Mechanics of the game
1. The teacher will group the students into two and each group will pick two
representatives.
2. One as the guesser and the other one who is only allowed to respond to the
guesser’s questions with yes, or no or maybe.
3. The timer starts are one when the word is reveled
4. The timer stops when the group guesses the answer.
5. They performed a game within 5 minutes per group.
6. The group with the shortest time wins.
