AMMAR (Recovered)
AMMAR (Recovered)
I I Am Я Є we are Ми Є
Тільки I має
займенники – is.
приймають форму – are.
займенником it.

1. Питальне слово: what
2. Допоміжне: was; were
3. Підмет: she; they
4. Основне дієслово + ing: reading; cleaning
5. Додаток; their flat
6. Обставини місця та часу: at 2 yesterday?; all morning yesterday?
1. Підмет; she ; they
2. Допоміжне дієслово; was; were
3. Заперечна частка; not not
4. Основне дієслово; reading; cleaning
5. Додаток; a magazine; their flat
6. Обставини місця та часу; at 2 yesterday.; all morning yesterday.
Put the verb in brackets into the past continuous tense.
- I … (read) a book at 4 yesterday.
- They … (surf) the net at that time.

- The trees … (tremble) when the wind … (blow) hard in the woods.
- The prime minister … (announce) the decision when a shot was heard.
- The petrol price … (rise) with each day last month.
2. Write the sentences in the past continuous changing the circumstances of time.
- Tom did his homework yesterday.
- The sputnik deviated from its aim an hour ago.
- They will arrive at the coach station in an hour.
- Robert dismissed his assistant because she was constantly late for work.
- I see two men who are talking on the landing.

- He walked along the kerb when I ran into him.
- I used to live on the seafront of San Francisco, when I was little.
- We are playing volleyball with friends at the seaside tomorrow’s afternoon.
3. Put questions to the words in green.
- The refuse collector was picking up rubbish from the street when I saw him.
- The estate agent was describing the house on and on when you finally grabbed us
from his boring speech.
- The hairdresser was perming my hair fringe by fringe.
- A bee was flying around me when it suddenly stung me in the eye.

1. Підмет, виконавець дії;
2. допоміжне дієслово have; has;
3. основне дієслово з закінченням ed або 3-я колонка неправильних дієслів;
4. додаток
Has she cleaned the room? –
Why has she cleaned the room? –
Підмет : she
Допоміжне дієслово: has
Заперечна частка: not
Основне дієслово: cleaned
Додаток: the room
The aircraft
has landed
The aircraft has landed. –
She has been cleaning windows since early morning. Now it is evening.
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS:
THEY
SINCE
LAST HAVE
WEEK
THE
BEEN
GARDEN
DIGGING
Have they been digging the garden since last week? –
допоміжного have чи has.
They have not been digging the garden since last week? –

“I can’t tell you that right now. Just … me and your questions … answered.” Michael … in
exasperation. Was he ever going to learn anything of importance? Mr. Thuner … him through
the armory to a circular briefing room that was well-shielded form the noise coming from the
rest of the Alcove. Mr. Thuner … for him to sit down in one of futuristic leather chairs. Each
chair … an odd assortment of buttons on it and Michael … that all the chairs had an American
flag with a “12” emblazoned on them. After sitting down, another man … the room, wearing
the same style trench coat and hat as Mr. Thuner. But this man was taller, thinner, and … more
authority than Mr. Thuner. He … at the head of the circular table and … his hat, revealing black
hair with dignified streaks of gray. His eyes … a certain sharp quality to them and suggested
that he was the type of man who was well traveled and educated. As he spoke, the room seemed
to shake with his deep, authoritative voice.
“Greetings, Michael. My name is Thomas Keen. You may … me Mr. Keen if you like. I imagine
you … a fair amount of questions.”
“Yes, Mr. Keen, I … loads of them. Can you … all of them?”
“Yes. Though, some of them I … you may not like the answers I yield. Are you ready?”
Michael … his head in assent and prepared himself for whatever shocking revelations … in his
immediate future. Then, Mr. Keen …
“You may not like this Michael, but we – the Majestic Twelve – … you since almost your birth.
We … a hand in your life at all times – whether through this very school or through indirect
forces we have been with you. That is the first thing you must understand.
“The second thing you must understand is the nature of this agency. … you … of the four basic
individual freedoms that we are granted?” Michael … his head yes, remembering the speech he
… by Franklin Delano Roosevelt earlier that year. “Well,” Mr. Keen continued, “our
organization … a Fifth Freedom. The freedom to protect the four basic individual freedoms of
the American people by whatever means necessary. It is said that sometimes evil must be done
in the name of good in order to vanquish evil. That is the purpose of our agency. To stop the
spread of evil in the world by whatever means necessary.
“I’m sure you … what this has to do with you. The school you … for the past four years – St.
Veronica’s – is a “farming ground” of sorts for our future operatives. Everything you … at this
school has been toward the honing of your skills in lieu of your serving us. Some of these skills
you may remember, others … from instinct.” Michael’s eyes ... briefly as he … how he … the
two intruders at his home.
“You are, essentially, a weapon. A tool against the evil purported in this world by those who
… at nothing to rid the world of peace. That is why our enemies … to kill you, because you
represent a great threat to their despicable way of life.”
So, there it was. Almost everything … into place for Michael Soarvi. His mysterious instincts,
the top-notch education, it was all a part of a scheme to turn him into a weapon. It was because
of this that his family was dead. He would never get to see his two brothers grow up. His parents
wouldn’t see him graduate or go to college. Yet, if he … into this…weapon, he wouldn’t have
survived. He wouldn’t have a chance to avenge his parents. The thought of vengeance … him a
cool serenity that … the rage boiling beneath his surface. Mr. Keen continued.
“So, Michael, we must now discuss your future. You are to become an actual member of the
Majestic Twelve. Not just an operative, but you … of an elite circle of twelve agents that …
evil wherever it … its ugly head. Mr. Thuner here is Number One, captain of the Majestic
Twelve.”

– the fairy tale about the round bun
was created a long time ago.
The police arrested the robber yesterday. – the robber was arrested yesterday.
The window has been broken by the boy, who lives in the neighbourhood.
The glass pane needs to be changed.
The director instructed
the employees about changes of the company course. – The employees have been
instructed about changes of the company course.
– ENGLAND BEATEN IN FOOTBALL
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE LEFT
HOMELESS BY THE FLOODS

– You can have your car washed here really
cheaply
– I had my wallet stolen at the market.
– Unfortunately, I fell asleep in the sun
and got my shoulders burnt
It is inevitable
that some things can get broken while you move houses
It’s taken a
long time, but Christopher finally got his novel published.
The Cup was won by Argentina. The steak was
sprinkled with white pepper.
he, somebody, people, one,
Nobody found the answer – the answer wasn’t found.
перевага активному стані з безособовими займенниками: you, we, they.
They arrested him this morning. – he was arrested this morning.
They say he’s a multi-millionaire. – he is said to be a multi-millionaire.
You should replace the cartridge every three months. – the cartridge should be
replaced every three months.
The letter was written by Monika with a pen.

Sandra Bullock may be Hollywood's most bankable star, but it is her humor
and honesty that win her fans as well as her performances on screen.
Sandra Bullock is … 46-year-old, recently divorced, mother of one who was
once Americas favourite girl next door but has recently grown into its best-loved
housewife. Last year, this made her almost twice as successful as any other
actress on the planet.
That, at least, is … conclusion of Forbes magazine, which in the unashamedly
vulgar manner of publication dedicated to celebrating enormous wealth
announced that she topped its annual "Celebrity 100" list of … world s highest-
paid female performers. Bullocks earnings in … past 12 months were $5 6m
(£35m). To put that sum in context, Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon, in
joint second place, managed $32m each.
… achievement was all … more remarkable since it followed … most topsy-
turvy of years, which saw Bullock heralded as both … best and worst actress in
town. In March, she became … first ever performer to pick up a Razzie, for worst
acting performance of … year, arid then an Oscar, for best, on consecutive nights.
Her famously self-deprecating sense of humor, her inner steeliness and
capacity for perseverance have served Bullock particularly well this summer,
when she was caught up in … tawdry marital scandal. Her husband Jesse James,
… celebrity motorcycle mechanic and descendant of … famous outlaw, was
caught having an affair with heavily tattooed model.
In … ensuing tabloid frenzy, she has remained composed and surprisingly
dignified, appearing in public only to announce, via … front page of People
magazine, that she recently became a single parent, after adopting-a "perfect"
three-year-old boy called Louis. If anything, … victim status actually enhanced
her reputation as Americas modern-day sweetheart.
Her turn in this year's blockbuster The Blind Side, … true story of a southern
housewife who adopts … homeless black teenager and helps him become …
famous American football player, not only won her an Oscar but also generated
$300m at the box office. Her other hit, The Proposal, defied awful reviews to
make $320m. Even All About Steve, … hopeless mess for which she won …
Razzie, returned … half-respectable $40m
The secret of her success can be summed up in … title of one of her most
famous films, Miss Congeniality. On and off screen, Bullock is naturally likeable.
No one would call her … world s greatest actress, of course, and not all … projects
on her CV are im pressive. (Some are truly awful.) But what marks her out from
the majority of her peers is … complete lack of actorly ego.
In the standard environment in which Hollywood stars meet their public —
the hotel-room press junkets, red-carpet interviews and chat-show sofas — that
brand of honesty makes Bullock … breath of fresh air. She picks her nose. She
cracks jokes at her own expense. Sometimes she wont even bother with make-up.
She's in on the joke, and will mock herself. That's so rare in Hollywood. It makes
her seem like your next-door neighbour who lucked out and became …
billionaire.
There were, of course, several lucky breaks on Sandra Annette Bullock's long
journey to fame. Born in Virginia, to a German mother who was … opera singer,
and … father who worked as … voice coach, she did ballet in childhood, was …
cheerleader in her teens, and dropped out of university in her final year, to seek
fame and fortune as … actress. It took … while to work out, and Bullock spent
years serving tables in Manhattan, while she plodded from audition to audition.
"Once … waitress, always … waitress," she recently said.
Behind the scenes, meanwhile, Bullock's production company, Fortis — which
she founded in … late 1990s with her sister Gesine — has built up a shrewd
reputation, thanks in part to Bullock's reputation for clever business dealings.
Her vast wealth is nonetheless being spent wisely. She quiedy gave $ 1 m to
victims of the Haiti earthquake this year.
She has recently spent the lion's share of her time at the Texas location, away
from prying cameras, concentrating on motherhood and her large collection of
household pets. (She and James, whom she'd married in 2005, owned seven
dogs.) Though offers have poured in, she has no new films on the horizon until
next year.

From "Independent"
The town of the talk
WANDER into "Avenue Q" at Broadways Golden Theatre and you can see …
best current incarnation of … old New York favourite: … musical about the town
that invented musicals. … show features … group of young hopefuls who are
consigned by … city’s high rents to … fictitious street in … outer borough.
The story is also true to life in another way. Some of … characters are people,
some are humanoid glove-puppets, and some are green or covered with hair. The
real New York is not quite as ethnically diverse as that, but it is getting there. In
… 1990s, immigrants flooded into New York in greater numbers and from more
countries than ever before. … city's population reached an all-time high of 8.1m,
and … higher proportion of its people — over 36% — are foreign-born than at
any time since the 1920s. Los Angeles and Miami have … even larger proportion
of immigrants, but New York's are far more diverse. Over half of Miami's new
arrivals are Cuban, and over 40% of Los Angeles' are Mexican. In New York, …
Dominican Republic provides … biggest chunk of immigrants, with … share of
13%. China comes next with 9%, then Jamaica with 6%. No other country has
more than 5%.
The impact of these multifarious new New Yorkers is easily summed up. They
saved … city, and they are helping to rebuild its neglected neighbourhoods. In
… disastrous 1970s, New York lost 10% of its population and more or less went
bankrupt. Without … influx of some 780,000 foreigners in that decade, things
would have been much worse. And ever since then, immigration has helped New
York to avoid … decline that beset most of America's other big old cities. Now
immigrants make up 43% of … city's labour force, including over … third of its
workers in finance, insurance and property, over 40% in education, health and
social services, more than half in restaurants and hotels, 58% in construction and
nearly two-thirds … in manufacturing.
In 1983, … Economist said the city needed to strike more of … balance be-
tween rich Manhattan at its core and its four partly decaying outer boroughs of
Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Manhattan is still enormously
wealthy. The residents of just 20 streets on … east side of Central Park donated
more money to … 2004 presidential campaigns than all but five entire American
states. But many of … most wretched neighbourhoods of 20 years ago — in south
Bronx, central Brooklyn and Harlem — have seen … remarkable renaissance.
Most immigrants live in the outer boroughs, two-thirds of them in Queens or
Brooklyn, where they build businesses and often homes. Flushing in Queens,
whose population is now nearly two-thirds immigrant, is … striking example.
Poor and virtually all white in the early 1970s, the place is now Asian and
flourishing. Across … city there has been … boom in housing construction. And
nearly half of all new housing in … past seven years is reckoned to be occupied
by immigrants or their children.
New York is once more where … young want to go, whether it is to take up a
high-paying job on Wall Street, to study, or to vegetate on Avenue Q whilst
figuring out which of the city's opportunities to aim for. New York University is
now … most popular in America, according to a survey of college hopefuls by
the Princeton Review in 2004. Its number of applicants for undergraduate courses
more than doubled from 1995 to 2004. More graduates from America's top
business schools go to New York than to any other city. For … less well-heeled,
a little creativity may be required to pay … rent. At a subway stop on 57th Street,
a student busker plays the "Godfather" theme with her saxophone.
The city is bubbling with more conventional attractions, too. After …
renovation projects that cost $858m, … Museum of Modern Art unveiled its new
building. It hiked its admission charge from $12 to $20 but is packed. Jazz at
Lincoln Center opened its concert spaces, run by Wynton Marsalis, … jazz
trumpeter, in the angular twin towers of … new Time-Warner Centre (TWC) at
Columbus Circle. The TWC is the headquarters of Time-Warner, but also houses
… shopping mall, some of the most expensive apartments in New York and two
restaurants where it would not be hard to spend $1,000 on dinner for two.
Worlds away downtown, countless cheaper joints are jumping. According to
Moby, … techno musician who owns … vegetarian restaurant on … Lower East
Side, ten years ago there was nowhere in … area for bands to play. Now there
are too many venues. With at least 850 bars and clubs all over the city, …
competition can be fierce.
One big reason why New Yorkers have been able to rescue their
neighbourhoods, attract people and smarten up … city is … dramatic fall in
crime, which began in 1990s and continues apace. Once notorious for its
threatening streets, graffiticovered subways, drug-addled hobos and general air
of menace, New York today is … safest big city in America. Not only are New
Yorkers comfortable lolling on the sidewalks, eating outside and moving around
the city, they have reclaimed their streets.
Rudy Giuliani, who was mayor in 1994-2001, is usually given … credit for
transforming … city with his introduction of "zero-tolerance" policing. He did
indeed demonstrate that crime can be driven down and kept down. He showed
that the city was manageable, which was … great legacy to leave. But the
conquest of crime did not happen quite as New Yorkers think they remember it.
The cycle was started when David Dinkins, … black former mayor who is now
rarely credited with anything, raised taxes to hire thousands more police in 1990-
93 and crime began to drop. And it was Mr. Dinkins's police commissioner, Ray
Kelly who began the campaign to stamp out windscreen-washing "squeegee
men". It helped, too, that the city's crack-cocaine epidemic was ending anyway
in 1991.
From … late 1960s to … early 1980s, films showed … world that New York was
steeped in sleaze and violence. … image of the city portrayed in "Midnight
Cowboy", "The French Connection", "Death Wish", "Taxi Driver" and "Fort
Apache, the Bronx" took time to fade. But in the 1990s three yawningly peaceful
sitcoms broadcast … very different picture of the city. They were tinged with just
enough hedonism and cynicism to attract young people without risking their
parents' disapproval. The three are "Friends", in which nothing happens,
"Seinfeld", in which even less happens, and "Sex and the City", where plenty
happens, but usually to someone else
"Sex and the City" stars four young career women and is about … difficulties of
finding … man in New York. It has … point. According to an analysis for The
Economist, there are 93 men to every 100 women among single New Yorkers
aged 20-44. In … country as … whole, and in most other big cities, there are more
young single men than young single women. What … programme mostly shows,
though, are … joys of chatting, shopping and going out to glamorous places. The
six young friends in "Friends" are poorer and don't have quite … right invitations.
They hang out together, discuss who is hanging out with whom, then hang out
some more. "Seinfeld" is about … self-satisfied comic who occupies him-self by
being mildly witty about the trivial frustrations of urban living and his eccentric
neighbours.
All three programmes show New York as essentially one big conversation. For
this is … town of the talk — … town of irrepressible boosterism somehow
combined with deprecating and ironic Jewish humor, of endless argument and
opining, of making deals, exchanging ideas and remaking lives through meetings
that seem pure chance but are inevitable given the city's buzzing density.
Manhattans grid of streets packs together not only the 1.5m people who live there
but also 2.4m jobs, and … lions share of the city's huge number of visitors. As …
capital of the nations media, it is the place where America talks to itself. Most of
… news networks and late-night talk shows, … two almost-national quality
papers, … news weeklies and … book publishers are here. Discourse and
intercourse — in … broad sense of that word — are … essence and … advantage
of New York. The jobs, which thrive here are those, that require or exploit the
interaction of people jammed together.
Yet density brings … small risk of great danger. New York is … strikingly
healthy place to live, and was so long before Mr. Began to verge a war on smoking
in 2002. Partly because there is no room for many cars — so New Yorkers are
highly unlikely to be killed by them, and take more exercise — New York has the
lowest mortality rate of all but three of Americas 46 biggest cities. But, as …
journalist and author E.B. White pointed out long ago, … highly concentrated
splendour of New York also makes it … temping target for any "perverted
dreamer" with the power to "loose the lightning of annihilation". With what now
seems like chilling prescience, in 1948 he wrote: … single flight of planes... can
quickly end this island fantasy, burn the towers, crumble the bridges, turn the
underground passages into lethal chambers, cremate … millions. The intimation
of mortality is part of New York now: in the sound of jets overhead, in the black
headlines of the latest edition.
Three-and-a-half years after New York's blackest headlines, … island fantasy
is evidently far from ended. Jobs are growing, Wall Street bonuses are up, and
last year there fore the attacks. But then … numbers killed were not the millions
White envisaged; he was thinking of nuclear bombs. Leave out the passengers
and crew on the airplanes that were flown into … World Trade Centre, and about
2,600 people were killed in New York on Sep-tember 11th 2001. Put that tragic
number in perspective, and you can perhaps see how it is possible for New York
to be … powerful magnet for talent, youth and energy once more. In 1990 there
were 2,290 murders in the city; last year there were 566. Thus even if a September
11th were to occur every other year, the city would by one measure be quite …
lot safer than it would be with crime at its 1990 level and no terrorism.

Natural Scotland
30 November — St. Andrew's Day (Scotland)
Scotland is distinguished from … rest of … Britain mainly by … scale of its
spectacular mountain scenery, … abundant lochs and rivers, dramatic coastline
and rich diversity of … wildlife. … hills and moorland are often covered in
heather and mountain grasses, and … crags of Angus and … Cairngorms are
refuges for … rare arctic-alpine plants. Spectacular examples of mountain and
moorland are brooding Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor, or … wildness of …
mountains of ... north west Sutherland. This is … territory of large herds of red
deer and supports amongst … highest numbers of golden eagles and peregrine
falcons in Europe.
… thousands of miles of coast provide some of Scodand’s most easily viewed
wildlife. On its great sea-stacks and islands, such as Noss in Shetland, Handa
Island off … west coast of Sutherland and … St Abbs Head in … Borders are
found some of … greatest concentrations of … sea-birds in … world. Nesting on
cliffs up to 300 metres high, these include puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes and
razorbills.
… magnificent panoramic sweeps of … white shell sand beaches and meadows
of … west coast of … Western Isles are unique with their wild flowers and
ground-nesting birds including … rare corncrake.
… watching of … whales, … dolphins, … seals and … seabirds, whether from
… boat or from … coast, is rapidly developing as … significant quality attraction
around coastal Scotland. The Moray Firth is now recognised as … particularly
important area for … only resident population of bottlenose dolphins in … North
Sea. … dolphins can also be seen from … many shore based localities. Harbour
porpoises are often seen in … Moray Firth and well up into … Beauly and
Cromarty Firths. Grey seals can also be found around … Isle of May in the Firth
of Forth.
… waters of … West Coast and Orkney and Shetland support approximately
20 species of whale including humpback and sperm, and numerous porpoise and
dolphins …. Dolphins often come close to shore following spring runs of … fish.
Minke whales are more common here than anywhere else in … Britain and often
approach quite close to boats.
… hills and glens offer many surprises, like Glen Nevis, with its spectacular
300 metre waterfall.
Much further to … north, in Caithness and Sutherland … unique rolling
landscape of the peatlands, known as the Flow country, is dotted with thousands
of small pools or "dubh lochans" and is … home to … wide range of birds —
black-throated and red-throated divers, golden plover, … dunlin and hen-
harrier.
… magnificent deciduous woodlands of … oak, … birch, … ash and … rowan
in Galloway, Argyll and West Lochaber are covered with many species of lichens,
mosses and ferns, and in springtime are carpeted with bluebells. These native
oakwoods provide … important habitat for many birds and insects.
… remnant native pinewoods of … once great Caledonian Pinewood provide
sanctuary for red squirrel, capercail-lie, Scottish crossbill, crested tit and pine
marten.
Scotland is renowned for its deep clear lochs such as … Loch Ness and … Loch
Тау and fast-flowing Highland rivers such as … Dee and … Spey. Nowhere else
in … Britain can one find … distinctive sea lochs of … west coast framed by steep-
sided mountains — Loch Broom near Ullapool is … fine example. Loch Sunart
on … south shore of … Ardnamurchan peninsula provides … habitats for
plentiful wild salmon, trout and otter. This species is perhaps most likely to be
seen at the otter sanctuary on Skye where live TV pictures of the otters are shown
in … hide. The magnificent sea eagle now patrols … west coast and islands —

yourself.
пригощатися, acquaint yourself with – познайомитися з, behave yourself – гарно

He is not a mechanic, but he was able to repair our car.
Be able to можемо вживати в будь якому

He managed to cross the desert in 10 days. – did he manage to cross the desert

– He said he lived in London in 2013.
реченням виступає «чи» - if /whether.

Hardly had I baked the cake
обмежуєчим чи заперечним when children ate it all. Rarely do його зїли.
значенням they visit a gym. Never before спортзал.
have I seen such an exciting film.
Only + часовий чи Only later did he realize that
by persuading their father could
the children go to the movie.
In no way, at no time, under no Under no circumstances should
circumstnces, on no account. such behavior be allowed. No way поведінка може бути
is he going to believe in that.
Not … only + часовий вираз\ Not only have they read the book Не тільки вони прочитали цю

He likes playing golf so does his
such, so.
– No doubt he will give us a key. No doubt will he give us a key.
– Only gym members can park
here. Only can gym members park here.
