1.What are temporary and permanent teeth?
Ans: 1)a. Temporary teeth are the first set of teeth that grows when the child is about
six months old.
b. They usually have a set of about 20 primary teeth.

2) a. Permanent teeth are the second set of teeth that appears in the place of primary
teeth when the child is about 6 or 7 years old.
b. They usually have 32 permanent teeth.

Ans 3) (a) Molars: The molars are 12 in number - six in each jaw. They are used
for chewing and grinding food.
(b)Incisors: We have eight incisors – four in each jaw. They are used for
biting and cutting food into small pieces.
(c)Canines: We have four canines – two in each jaw. They are used for
tearing and ripping food.

4. Explain how tooth can decay.


Ans 4) a. If teeth are not cleaned regularly, germs may grow on them and
form a sticky yellow coating known as plaque.
B. These germs then produce acid and destroy the enamel of the teeth,
causing tooth decay.
5. Mention the type of food you should take and food you
should avoid, to maintain a healthy set of teeth.
Ans 5) a. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and calcium-rich
food like green leafy vegetables, yogurt and other milk
products to make your teeth strong.
b. Avoid taking soft drinks and food that contain high
amount of sugar, like sweets, chocolates and pastries.

6. Mention few other ways to protect teeth from decaying.

unhealthy eating habits.
b. Weakening of gums due to ageing also leads to loss of
teeth.
c. However by the age of 65, only 19-20 percent of teeth
remains.
2. How many teeth does a newborn baby has?
Ans 2) A newborn baby is born without teeth. It starts appearing
after six months of their birth.
