STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This Portfolio contains the experiences, learnings, insights gained and some supporting

documents required for the Internship program of College of Education.

Undertaking the On the Job Training (OJT) is one of the methods in enhancing and

enriching the skills of the students. For this reason, we the Bachelor of Elementary Education

Major in Special Education students from Global Reciprocal Colleges held our OJT at Cecilio

Apostol Elementary School (CAES). Through this we’re able to apply the knowledge we have

acquired from GRC to the school assigned to us. It is also one of the ways in which we

developed our sense of responsibility upon performing the given task by our supervisors and

cooperating teachers. This also gave us the glimpse of the real situations that are happening in

the Educational field that we are about to enter soon.

In this paper you will be able to see the current situations and changes that have

happened in the past months due to the pandemic. How the teachers, school staffs, interns,

parents, students and the community adjusted to the New Normal Set Up of Education. There

are also compilations of our best works and involvement in some programs held in the

institution we are assigned with. Through this we’re be able to share the milestones that we

have gained in the past months of our internship. The highs and the lows, the challenges we

faced and the victories we had.

Above all else, this serve as a documentation of our dedication, passion and ability to

our chosen field of work.

MY PRAYER

Lord, help me to be a fine teacher,

to keep peace in the online classroom.

Peace between my students and myself.

To be kind and gentle to each and every one of my students.

Help me to be merciful to my students.

To balance mercy and discipline in the right measure

for each student, and to give praise as much as possible.

Be able to give constructive criticisms in a manner that is parable to my students.

Help me remain conscientious enough

to keep my lesson always interesting.

To recognize what motivates each of my students, and

to accept their limitations and not hold it against them.

Help me not to judge my students harshly, and to be fair to all.

To be a good role model.

But most of all Lord; help me to show your love to all of my students.
MY PRACTICE TEACHING SITE
(Let’s explore CAES)

Name of the School: CECILIO APOSTOL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (CAES)

Address: Ma. Clara St. Corner 7th Avenue, 1600 Caloocan

Description: CAES is located beside the Maria Clara High School. This school caters not

only the regular students but also give quality education to children with special needs.

The school is accessible to community center, Brgy. Hall, plaza, health center, and

market. The school actively participates in some development programs in the

barangay such as: Brigada Eskwela, Clean and Green, Gulayan ng Bayan, Peace and

Order and currently the Community Pantries.

REFLECTION: What I feel about the school, and my What if’s?

Truly the pandemic had caused a lot of adjustments not just to the school and staffs but

also to us interns. This was not the first time that I observed in CAES. I used to have my Field

Study Observation here when I was in 3 rd year. Before the pandemic, usually you can see

children chatting, studying or playing in the court. It is used to be a fun place, but now it was

totally different. The school became a relief center, only few staffs were required to go to the

school. The students were not allowed to see their teachers personally and parents were the

only one who can come during the module retrieval and distribution.

As interns, we were saddened because we’re not be able to see our students personally.

We didn’t personally execute all the learnings we have acquired in the past years. We only see

them virtually and it quite frustrates me personally. I was trained in a normal set up of class,

but now it was way different. We were not also allowed to go to CAES as a group. We have

to abide in some protocols like the teachers of CAES did. We were only allowed to have virtual

program since the school was located right beside the Barangay hall, because they might have

got reported.

As I visited the school, I thought what if we were still in the normal set up, will I be as

dedicated to finish this internship or not? What would be the feeling of doing sign language in

actual. I do really miss the face to face classes. I miss the sounds of children’s laughs and

shouts. If last year I failed to experience the Hearing Impaired class, through this OJT I was

able to enjoy it though it was only a virtual class.

LESSON PLAN WRITING
MY DAILY MAP: A lesson plan gives the teacher not only a road map – a beginning, middle

and an end – but also freedom to think out of the box and be creative in giving a variety of

learning experiences for the students. Every lesson needs to be planned thoroughly for the

objectives to be achieved.

REFLECTION: Lesson plan: Teacher’s Light in darkness

Lesson Plan making is the light to the teacher’s road and the backbone of the lesson or

discussion. Without a good planning chaos in discussion might occur. The teacher must be

mindful of all the details that he or she will put on her lesson plan. The teacher must be specific

what objectives will he or she puts and that is achievable in a certain period of time. Planning

all the materials, lessons, strategies and activities to be used. Planning is the longest period in

the preparation for the FINAL DEMONSTRATION and for every day class.

Lesson plan gives us guidance where to go, what to do and when to do a specific task

or activity. Without a daily plan, we’ll be lost in track. We will be like a traveler who doesn’t

have a map and wasted because he doesn’t know what to do or where to go. Worst thing that

may happen is we’ll not be able to reach the destiny we desire.

Lesson plan is a guiding light so that when we’re lost for a while we can draw back to

it and it lead us back to the right track. Never neglect the power and importance of the lesson

plans. Because it will reflect your character as a teacher. Remember a good planner is a good

teacher. Be wise and coherent so that you’ll not lose your track and your student will not suffer

as well.

REFLECTION: Best Lesson plan: The fun was priceless

While writing or making Weekly Home Learning Plan (WHLP), there are some

adjustments. We’re used to make a semi-detailed or detailed lesson plan. Here, because of the

new normal set up, we have to consider the modular and online approach of teaching. We have

to make it brief and to maximize the available resource that the teacher and students’ have.

Planning what to do and teach is a must. For me it was much easier to make a WHLP than the

usual LP. I hope that soon I will be mastering how to make this learning plan and be able to

make it in a short period of time.

For our Final Demonstration, at first, our cooperating teacher told us to make a detailed

lesson plan. But because we are going to teach in sign language she allowed us to use a semi-

detailed lesson plan which is easier to make. We passed our initial works and have been

approved. I am glad that we had the opportunity to handle and teach students with special

needs. Though lesson plan making is not new to me, I still have to take it seriously and do it

with all my heart. All in all, I enjoyed my experience in making lesson plan that is suited for

the deaf students.

LEARNER’S WORK AND FEEDBACK
Who’s your hero activity?
DEMONSTRATION FINAL ACTIVITY: Slogan Making

REFLECTION: Learners’ work: Give and take Relationship

Students were asked to draw their heroes and tell why do they like that hero. I believe
that all of us have that hero that admire. Sometimes we desire to be like them or admire the
things that they have done. Each of them have different perspective of what a hero should be.
I am happy because through this activity, I’ve seen how creative and talented students they are.

Another set of work that I like is their slogan during my demonstration. It shows the
importance of following the laws of environment. It shows how much they understood the
lessons. Some of them really have the talent in drawing or art. I’ve seen that God is really fair
in everything. Despite of their disabilities, he gave them talents and skills that will be useful to
them. I’ve also seen the support of their parents whenever the teacher is asking them to a
homework or artworks.
COMMUNITY INVOLMENT

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: A Harmonious Collaboration

There is a significant positive correlation between school, family, and community

involvement and student success.

REFLECTION: “Community Involvement: Lifelong Investment”

Interns of GRC in CAES actively participates in the following events: Community

Pantry, School Mapping, SPED milk Feeding and Module Retrieval and Distribution. They are

dedicated to help the CAES teachers to have a harmonious relationship, not just with the

parents/families of the students but with the community itself. Also CAES serves as a relief

goods facilities. The school values the importance of being connected with community.

Consistent community involvement and engagement at all levels of the school have

been shown to have significant short and long term benefits. According to a recent policy brief

from the National Education Association (NEA), “when schools, parents, families, and

communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend

school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs”. With these

important benefits in mind, it’s clear that a focus on increasing community involvement

programs and opportunities should be a consistent goal for your school. These simply means

that we should encourage each and every one to involve in some community programs.

I am glad that despite of the pandemic the school doesn’t stop reaching out to the

community. Despite of the risks, they still manage to serve the community. Kudos to the

teachers, staffs and interns of GRC in CAES!

AND PANELS DURING MY INTERNSHIP AND FINAL DEMONSTRATION
REFLECTION: Developing my strengths and weakness

“Well done”, “Good job!”, “You did it well”, “Awesome!”, “The final output was

great”, “You manage your students so well.”, “You look so professional when you teach

them.” Those are the words I have received after my Final Demonstration. Those flattery words

that boosted my confidence in teaching deaf students. Hearing those words energized me to

push through on the profession I have started. I felt relieved after the demonstrations and I said

to myself well done self! you did it great.

But behind that success were sleepless nights, frustrations that I might not be able to

perform it well. The discouragement I felt because that was my first time handling students

with hearing impairment. It was also my first time to learn and teach using sign language. I

wasn’t confident enough compared to my previous demonstrations. I always asked some

advices from my Critic teacher. She told us that we’ll be able to make it, just study what we

have to do and practice every day.

Prior to our demonstration was we were required to do a vocabulary review to the

students. We studied different sets of words that can be helpful in our demonstration. Little by

little we became more familiar to the hand signs and expressions. The hesitations lowly fading

and confidence is starting to get back on track. Constant practice helped me a lot. regardless if

you memorized all the words but didn’t practice, it’ll be non-sense. Before I considered sign

language as my weakness, but now it became my edge and strengths over the other applicants

in the future.
