INTRODUCTION
The report contains a description of my 4 months of internship pursued as a mandatory
requirement for the undergraduate program of BSS in Media and Communication by the School
of Liberal Arts and Social Science of Independent University, Bangladesh.

An internship is important because it can present an individual with new skills and
opportunities that one would not receive otherwise. Interns not only gain technical knowledge
within the industry of their choice, but they also learn how to interact with professionals in a
workplace setting, and develop essential soft skills like time management, organization,
adaptability, problem-solving and teamwork. Internship helps one gaining industry knowledge,
figuring out own interests, creating new interests, connecting you to industry professionals,
allowing you to learn in a safe environment, giving you the opportunity to get paid to learn,
providing possible credit for your college degree, allowing you to potentially gain more
internship opportunities, creating a unique travel experience, inspiring you to learn more about
an industry, teaching you about the importance of work-life balance.

Lubricant sector is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy of Bangladesh. Lately the
government has focused on the gradual rising demand of this sector. Violin Lubricants requires
expert human resource which is remarkably different from the other service sector companies.

A well-carried training program can help the firm to succeed. A program labeled with the
company’s strategy and objectives in mind has a high probability of improving productivity and
other goals that are set in the training mission of this lubricant company. Violin Lubricants has
well developed infrastructure for the employee as well as other interested candidates. Different
types of training programs are held in the office compound. These bring a positive environment
of learning. The learning environment provided by Violin Lubricants is a function of their
organizational culture.

Virgin base oil: The base oil, which are used by Violin Lubricant for the manufacture of
lubricants, belong to the family of paraffin’s. They are essentially characterized by an index
of high viscosity. (CT, 2006)

Additives: The technological evolution of the thermal engines forced the oil companies to
follow this progress in regularly developing new products lubricating oils that meet the
news requirements of automakers for the purpose of better customer satisfaction.

Lubricant: Blending products several types of lubricant-

There are 4 groups of lubricating oils. They are classified as follows:

(Petroleum Lubricating Oil andGrease Manufacturing, 1997)

Lubricant manufacturing: The principle of manufacturing is the mixing between the base oil

Before the mixing process: they often have very viscous additives, which makes it difficult
.they must increase the temperature of the base oil to reduce viscosity. The heating is finished in
the boilers.
14
The mixing process: The additives are added to the heated base oil while respecting a specific
value, viscosity, concentration, metals etc.

Skills and qualification:

I have spent four months in Violin Lubricants. During my internship period I have gained some
skills and qualifications which have stated as under:

 Work with team

During my internship I work with all staff of Violin Lubricant and here I learned about
How to work with all staff, it’s very helpful for me in showing good professional
behavior with all employees. How to treat with subordinate and high authority I learned
from the bank environment.
 Computer skills
In the modern era knowledge about computer has much important because every work is
done on computer so my internship in Violin Lubricants also help me in improve my
technical computer skills because where I done my work almost all my supervisor used
computer and I enter data in computer
 Communication skills:
Violin Lubricants during my internship period improves my communication skills.
 Discipline: during my internship in Violin Lubricants one skill develops in me is
discipline. Every work is done in under proper rule and regulation.

the help of the opportunity of doing internship in Violin Lubricants.
During my internship period ,my manager provide me opportunity to sit in departments
like general banking, report progress, utility bills departments, and advance department. I
have been assigned different task in different departments and under my supervisor I have
learn what nature of task performed in each departments, my supervisor tried to best to
give me knowledge related to these departments.
They not irritated from any question which I asked from them, they fully cooperated me
to understand the function they perform in department. I observe many functions which
supervisor perform in in departments I have got a lot of knowledge.
15
 Responsibilities: every employee of an organization has to undertake some
responsibilities on the behalf of the organization. Its duty of an employee to fulfil these
responsibilities.

OFFICE EXPERIENCE

Formal vs Informal
At the beginning I thought that in the factory, the executives will appear as formally dressed and
the workers will be dressed in their organizational uniform. I was amazed to see that the
executives were not even worried about being that formal strictly. They value work more than
the appearances and to them the outfit doesn’t matter always. They were strict about their time
schedule and working hours, 9 AM to 6 PM. They appear in formal outfit on the days of buyer’s
inspections or on any other importance. Everyone is free to work on their goal freely within the
time schedules. (NPCS, 1998)

Influence of internship
The internship has changed my views about my career plans and study plan slightly. The
practical experience of internship which I have gained from Violin Lubricants will help me as
reference of future job. This experience will not only help me to get the job, but also to help in
better performing the job due to the practically experience in different activities. Before joining
the internship, I was planning to do my Masters on a good subject before getting into a work life.
But now I am thinking to gather some experiences about the work I am going to build my career
with. Then will pursue the masters for further studies. I have a plan to go for higher studies if
possible. I will continue on that way while working.

Theories: Academic vs. Practical

There is a big difference between the world of academic learning and the world of practical
practice and experimental learning. I am glad that I have the ability to experience both. In the
16
academic life, we learn a lot of theories and we get graded on how much we learn. In the
practical practice, we get a chance to apply what we learned in theories. Also, in the practical
practice, a person needs to be more creative and updated.
Staff interaction:

I have learned a lot from my superiors and other colleagues during my internship. I have learned
about the importance of interactions between the higher level and lower level employees. The
importance of respect and valuation of an employee and worker in the factory is very important
to run the processes smoothly. The internship is a learning process, while to be kept in mind that
everybody should be respected and valued regardless of their position.

I got to do my factory laboratory work under one of the best teams of violin lubricants group.
The team that keeps the environment clean and safe to be continued further. The staff of the
department has helped me tremendously under every circumstance in every possible way. I faced
many difficulties during the assigned work but staffs have always eased my way to complete my
task in the allotted time. They have corrected me in many calculations and during the data
collections. My colleagues were always there to prepare me before the presentations.

What I learned?

I. Use the proper name

Please when you introduce yourself make staffs/colleagues use your official name (Ms.
Ferdoushey or Ms. Zohra). It seems to be unfamiliar to use official name.
II. Get along with everyone Relationships one of the most important things. Actually, you
will be kind of bridge between boss and office colleagues. Use this good advantage
wisely.

III. Be busy. Make yourself busy, it does not mean to be out of your mind.it means to do your best
all the time. Boss will give you a job. even it will be a break, enjoy your break time to do your
best.
IV. Don’t be afraid of speaking English I wasn’t good at English. Even now I’m perfect. But
think about Bangla. We are still learning Bangla and we will as long as we live, even
though Bangla is our first language same as English.so don’t be afraid of speaking
english.do not push yourself. We don’t have to be perfect.
17
V. Don’t forget god is always with you this is the main advice I really want to say. For sure you
will have such a hard time during this program. God has a plan for you. That’s why he gives you
hard time. Do not be frustrated. God will show you how much looks after you through everyone
around you.
CONCLUSION

Undergoing the internship programme was a great experience. I have attained new knowledge, skills
and met so many new faces from various specializations. I have achieved several of my learning goals. I
got the insight of professional practice and became pragmatic in my view of professionalism. This
programmes has also improved my thinking and analytical skills including strengthening my inherit
ability to work in a multicultural and multisectoral environment. I am really proud to have worked as
an intern in the programme carried out through my university discipline.
