Job Description

Law Enforcement Torch Run Athlete Representative


Overview
The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Athlete Representative will be a non-voting member of the
LETR Executive Council serving as an Advisory Committee Member. This position will be a one-year
commitment running from January-December. support the implementation and planning of all LETR
events and Campaign activities. In addition, this individual will speak on behalf of all athletes across the
state representing athletes best interested.

Supervisor: Development Director - LETR, Special Olympics Washington Staff

Principal Duties

 Attend monthly LETR Executive Council meetings – via Zoom


 Attend quarterly LETR Regional Coordinator meetings – via Zoom
 Represent the LETR Campaign at fundraising events and awareness gatherings when appropriate.
o For Example: Washington Association Sheriff and Police Chief’s Association Fall
Conference, possibly the LETR International Conference, etc.
 Write article in quarterly Guardian newsletter
 Join State Athlete Leadership Council (ALC)
 Gather feedback from fellow athletes in your Area (at practice, during competitions, by phone,
through social media, ALC meetings etc.) and present to LETR Exec Council
 Remain neutral in relaying constructive feedback from the athletes to the LETR Exec Council

Requirements
 Must apply via application to Development Director, LETR (ehardwick@sowa.org), complete
interview and be voted onto the LETR Exec Council by the current board
o Position will be based on the calendar year, chosen in August/September, active January-
December of the following year
 Position to be filled July 2022 for 6 months trial.
 Must participate in at least two Special Olympics seasons every year
 Must have taken the Introduction to Athlete Leadership training and AIC training within 90 days
of joining the council
o Update trainings based on 2022 meeting with Leah
 Must follow the Special Olympics Washington Athlete Code of Conduct
 Passionate about including the athletes voice in SOWA
 Comfortable talking to people and recording their feedback
 Comfortable with public speaking and address large crowds
 Can use email and/or phone communications to confirm meeting times and locations
 Be able to join and participate in virtual meetings using Zoom
 Able to attend meetings consistently and contribute in a professional manner
 Collaborate in small groups and speaks on behalf of other athletes and themselves
 Must be supportive of the LETR Campaign and attending events.
o Previous experience in an LETR event (Polar Plunge, Run with the Cops, Torch Run,
Courtesy Cops, Tip-A-Cop, etc.) a plus.
