Learning Through Project Work-Mini Projects
Learning Through Project Work-Mini Projects
Do you know What does an engineer do? Engineers design, evaluate, develop, test, modify,
install, inspect and maintain a wide variety of products and systems.
If you want to be an engineer with self-respect as engineer, your 3rd year is the most crucial
period of becoming an engineer. An engineering job involves carrying out a project. A "project"
consists of a coordinated series of activities or tasks performed by engineers, designers,
drafters and others from one or more engineering disciplines or departments.
You can become an effective engineer by taking your learning also as an engineering project.
Project-based learning is a method in which students learn a range of skills and subject
matter in the process of creating their own projects. ... They work in groups and bring their
own experiences, abilities, learning styles and perspectives to the project.
So are you going to take a mini project for learning mining machinery?
To take up a project:
1. Find out what interests you: read some introductory materials about machines in mining
and mineral industry, be aware of the problems and challenges.
2. Decide an area and define a topic
3. Define the objectives of your project and what background knowledge is required to do
the work
4. Investigate and carryout the work
5. Prepare a report and summaries what have you learnt or achieved how can you improve
it or find out if your project study has opened up a new area of interest for your future
work.
You will have to discuss with your teacher, instructor or contacts who knows the subject and can
guide you to start. Try to be lucky to have instructions to start. Sometimes, your seniors can
help you more than they can help your teacher. Develop your peer group and find who are the
people having same interest as yours.
