HOSPITALITY MINISTRY REFRESHER
TRAINING SEPT 11/12
For all hospitality ministers, there will be a brief
refresher training provided after all Masses this
weekend. Anyone interested in joining this ministry is
welcome to attend the training. Your attendance to the
session is important especially as we deal with covid
protocols amidst the return of our community to Masses.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry
continues to create
handcrafted shawls for
parishioners, their families
and friends who are coping with illness, loneliness, pain
or trouble. They are available to anyone who needs
one. Please call the office to request a shawl or lap
blanket or if you would like to join this ministry.
ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED OR WERE YOU
MARRIED OUTSIDE THE CHURCH?
Marriage in the Catholic Church is a Sacrament and
as such, is celebrated within the church setting. Before
making wedding plans it is important to contact your
parish priest. The parish priest will work with you to
ensure your marriage follows the correct Catholic
protocols.
How does a sacramental marriage differ from a
civil marriage? The main difference between
marrying in a religious or civil ceremony is that a
religious ceremony is about being wed in the eyes of
God (or whichever deity you believe in), while a civil
ceremony is about being wed in the eyes of the law.
For Catholics, who may have married outside the
Church — for whatever reason — the appropriate
course of action is to speak to their parish priest
regarding the possibility of convalidating your civil
union.

Every moment we
live, every decision
and choice we
make, every good
thing we do is our
most revealing and
telling response to
the question, Who
do you say I
am? Our love for
family and friends,
our commitment to the highest moral and ethical
standards, our willingness to take the first step toward
reconciliation and forgiveness are, ultimately, our true
confession of faith in Jesus Christ as the Love and
Word of God incarnate.
Most of us understand all too well where Peter is
coming from in today’s Gospel: Keep things upbeat
and positive; don’t dwell on the negative; stop whining;
pick yourself up and move on. That’s how humans
think, Jesus says. But to “think like God” is to realize
that denying or diminishing such difficulties and stress
can be devastating in the end, that resurrection is only
possible through taking up our own crosses in Jesus’
spirit of charity and mercy.
Only in “denying ourselves” in order to imitate the
servanthood of Christ do we experience the true depth
of our faith; only in embracing his compassion and
humility in our lives do we enable the Spirit of God to
renew and transform our world in God’s life and love.
We cannot belong to the company of Jesus unless we
embrace the Crucified One’s spirit of selfless
servanthood; we cannot stand with the Crucified Jesus
unless we unconditionally and completely love and
forgive others as he did; we cannot hope to share in the
victory of the Risen Christ unless we “crucify” our
fears, self-consciousness and prejudices that blind us
from seeing him in the faces of every human being.
AS YOU RETURN TO ATTENDING MASS
Churches are open at 33% capacity (135 people) for
indoor religious services, rites, or ceremonies, including
wedding services and funeral services. Attendance is
on a first come first serve basis. Masks must be worn
when entering the church. All covid safety protocols
will be followed. We look forward to your return and
encourage you to do so when you feel it is appropriate
for you.
DIOCESAN SEPARATED & DIVORCED
HEALING MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP
We meet every second and fourth Monday of the
month (except holidays) from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Mt.
Carmel Spiritual Centre, 7020 Stanley Ave., Niagara
Falls. Pre-registration is required. Meetings will be
held both in person at Mount Carmel and virtually via
Zoom platform. Please see contact info to pre-register.
Please Note: For in-person meeting, there will be
protocols in place specific to the health guidelines due
to the COVID‑19 pandemic. Participants will be
required to bring and wear a mask at the meetings and
practice social distancing. If you forget your mask, a
limited supply will be on hand for use.
Also, participants must provide Proof of two doses of
a Covid-19 vaccine when attending an in-person
meeting and complete a COVID screening
questionnaire.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION YR 2020/21
For families of our grade 8 students of last year, who
were registered and prepared, you should have received
an email by Fr. Chris this week with detailed
instructions. Confirmation will take place on
September 18th, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. All safety
protocols in place at that time for places of worship will
apply. Please contact the office asap if you have
changed your email address.
SACRAMENTS FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR 2021/22
Registration information with detailed instructions were
sent out this week from the school via email to the
families of students in grades 2 and 8 who were
baptised in the Roman Catholic Church. Grade 8
students must also have received the Sacrament of First
Communion. It is the responsibility of the parents to
initiate the process for their child’s participation in the
preparation and reception of the sacraments by
responding to the email as per the instructions given by
the deadline. Please look for the email and follow the
instructions. If your child is in grade 2 or 8 in the
public school system and was baptised in the Roman
Catholic Church, please contact the parish office.
 DONATIONS DURING COVID-19

If you would like to use this convenient method through your bank, please follow these
instructions (some banks charge a fee):
Go online and log into your bank account. Select Interac e-transfer and select a
recipient – the first time you will have to add recipient by putting in
donations@sthelenscatholic.ca (after the first time it will then stay on your list of
recipients). Input amount to send and complete the transaction. Note in the memo area
what your donation is for; Sunday Offertory (SO), Facility Maintenance (FM) and
Building Fund (BF). (Please include your ID# in the memo - contact the office if you
do not have a parish ID.)
Example - SO $20 One transaction can be made for all three if you wish. Such a
notation could look like this: SO $xx, FM $xx, BF $xx. If your transaction does not
work the first time, please try the next day as the Diocese can only receive a set amount
of donations in a 24-hour period. If you have any questions, please email or call the
office.
