VOLTAGE DROP MEASUREMENT

WORKSHEET 3-1
Voltage Drop Measurement / Switch #17 (Instructor Led)

Voltage Drop on the ES 300 Simulator Interior Light Circuit: Dome Light Too Dim With Door
Opened
Remember: In a series circuit all of the loads will add up to the source voltage. In a parallel circuit, each load receives
the source voltage.

1. On a copy of the EWD, trace the current flow through the ES 300 Interior Light Circuit when the door
is opened.

2. Using a voltmeter and the Lexus Body Electrical Simulator, measure the voltage at the fuse.

volts

3. Which fuse provides power for this circuit?

7.5A Dome Fuse

4. What is the available voltage for this circuit?

B+

5. What is the connector number for the Integration relay?

I14

6. Which splice is common to connectors V9, P5, V8, and I16?

B3

7. What is the ground connector number for the Interior Light?

II

8. Before we go too far with testing what component might we take a look at?

The bulb and the socket

Body Electrical Diagnosis - Course L652 189

9. What is the available voltage at I16 / pin #2
Battery voltage

10. Now measure the voltage at I16 across the the load. Which pins will you be checking?
#1 and #2

11. What is the voltage drop across these pins and what does this number mean?
Discuss the results of this test--drop will not be normal

12. What is the wire color leading to the Integration Relay out of I16 / Pin # 1?
R-W

13. If we find the bulb and socket to be good where could we place a fused jumper wire in order to test
for high resistance or a bad ground?

Anywhere between I 16 / Pin 1 and II to isolate the problem (easiest connector)

14. Is there an easier way to check for this problem and if so what is it?
This question is designed to generate a discussion on the subject.

Students should list alternate diagnostic plans.
