Case 1.
To determine whether a diet of blueberries has an effect on aging , an experiment
involving 19-month old rats was undertaken. In this study, one group of rats were fed with
their standard diet while the other three groups were fed with diet supplemented with
blueberry , strawberry, or spinach powder, respectively. After eight weeks, the rats were given
memory test and motor skill test.
Case 2.
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) if given in mega doses, is known to reduce the occurrence of
cancer cell. To test this hypothesis, patients with known cancers were given mega doses of
vitamin C for a period of 12 weeks. After twelve weeks, screening tests were done to
determine decrease of cancer cell.
Case 3.
Lucy is an owner of a fashion accessories store. She surveyed her customers on their
preferences for accessories on a headband. She found her customers prefer ribbons in their
headbands. Thus, Lucy would stock up on ribbons because this will determine the number of
headbands with ribbons that can sell.

Are you aware that all of us are exposed to a new phenomenon? Certainly you are aware. This
phenomenon is affecting our day-to-day activities. However, we need to find out why and
how this phenomenon affected us. This can only done by engaging ourselves into research.
I.ENGAGING TASK
Formulate hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess that serves as the tentative answers
to the posed research questions at the beginning of the inquiry process.
Prepare the Research Design. The research design is the blueprint of the research. It provides
the details of how data will be collected , analyzed and interpreted.
Define the Research Problem is identifying a research topic to be investigated.
Do the Review of Related Literature is obtaining background information about the research
topic . Related literature helps establish the rationale, significance and justification in pursuing
the research study.
Write the Research Report is reporting the findings of the study into a comprehensive
research paper.
Report the research findings is disseminating the findings to the public for consumption.
Collecting data is regarded the most important step in the research process since it involves
obtaining information to answer the research questions.
Analyze and Interpret the Data is paving the way to make sense of the data by transforming
them into appropriate tables and graphs.
