Introductory Message
Welcome!

The Self-Learning Package for Senior High School is developed to guide you
our dear learners to meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum.

The Self-Learning Package aims to guide our learners in accomplishing activi-

ties at their own pace and time. This also aims to assist learners in developing and
achieving
SCIENCE the lifelong learning skills while considering their needs and situations.

For learning facilitator:

Quarter 1| Lesson 1
The Self-Learning Package is developed to address the current needs of the
learner to continue learning in the comforts of their homes or learning centers. As the
learning facilitator, make sure that you give them clear instructions on how to study
and accomplish the given activities in the material. Learner’s progress must be moni-
tored.

For the learner:

The Self-Learning Package is developed to help you, dear learner, in your needs
to continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material aims to pri-
marily provide you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning.
Being an active learner, carefully read and understand to follow the instructions giv-
en.

REMEMBER ….
To answer the given exercises, questions and assessment, USE your Activity Note-
book or Answer Sheet. When you are DONE, wait for the teacher/volunteer to collect
your activity notebook/ answer sheet.

Good luck and God bless.

PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2
QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
Most Essential Learning Competency:
Describe characteristics, strengths,
weakness, and kinds of quantitative
research (CS_RS12-Ia-c-1)
Ready to Launch!
In this module, your will learn that quantitative research design use numbers
in concluding generalizations about a given research problem. It uses statistical analy-
sis in stating conclusions. It is the most reliable and valid way of concluding results
because it uses large number of sample from a population.

There are different types of quantitative research designs and could be classified
as descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental. These designs re-
fers to the different strategies that is appropriate in order to integrate the different com-
ponents and variables of your research study. These methods uses objective
measurements collected through surveys, polls, and experiments.

Aim at the Target!

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

• understand the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses,
and kinds of quantitative research; and
• decide on suitable quantitative research in different are-
as of interest.

Try This!
Task 1. Read each research topic/title and identify if it is QUALITATIVE or
QUANTITATIVE kind of research. Write QUALITATIVE or QUANTITATIVE on
your answer sheet .

____________1. The Rich Culture of Lumad in Mindanao

____________2. Prevalence of Tuberculosis in the Province of Antique
____________3. Stem Cell Therapy for Cancer Treatment
____________4. Level of Knowledge of Senior High School Learners on COVID-19
____________5. Teaching Personnel's’ Perspective on the COVID-19 pandemic.
____________6. Percentage of Oton National High School’s Wastes Classification
____________7. Level of Satisfaction of Parents’ to Modular Learning
____________8. The Effects of COVID-19 pandemic in Oton, Iloilo
____________9. The Correlation of Daily Allowance and Academic Performance
of ONHS Learners
____________10. The Health Safety Practices of Oton National High School
Keep This in Mind!
Task 2. Since you have already taken Practical Research 1, what do you think are the differ-
ences of Practical Research I (Qualitative Research) and Practical Research II (Quantitative Re-
search)? Fill in the blanks! Copy and write your answers on your answer sheet.

Quantitative methods are those that deal with measurable data. It is the data that is
codified, meaning:
 It has an amount that can be directly measured.
 The amount is with respect to some known units of measurement.
 The units are known so comparisons of measurements are possible.
 The comparisons are numerically based.
 Results are based and judged on such data comparisons.
 Quantitative methods are often used in technical fields, such as in sciences and
engineering.
 Using quantitative methods properly are key to your success in these areas!
Four Types of Quantitative Research
1. Descriptive Design
-Seeks to describe the current status of a variable or phenomenon
-Researcher does not begin with a hypothesis, but typically develops one after the data
is collected
-Data collection is mostly observational in nature
II. Correlational Design
- Explores the relationship between variables using statistical analyses
However, it does not look for cause and effect therefore, it is mostly observation in
terms of data collection
III. Quasi-Experimental Design
- (often referred to as Causal-Comparative) seeks to establish a cause-effect relation-
ship between two or more variables
- the researchers do not manipulate the independent variable
- control groups are identified and exposed to the variable
- results are compared with results from the control group and the group exposed to
the variable
IV. Experimental Designs
- “true experimentation”
- use the scientific method to establish cause-effect relationship among a group of vari-
ables in a research study
-The effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable are collected and
analysed for a relationship.

Task 3. Provide three research questions and determine the type of Research Design. Copy and
write your answers on your answer sheet.

Abstraction and Generalization

Quantitative methods are those that deal with data that could be
measured.
It can be directly measured, the amount is always with respect to
known units of measurements, it is always numerically measura-
ble and numerically based.

Results from quantitative researches are based and judge on

data comparison. It is often used in technical field( sciences
and engineering).

There are four types of Quantitative Research :

1. Descriptive Research Design
2. Correlational Design
3. Quasi-Experimental Design
4. Experimental Research Design

Examples of these four types of researches are:

1. Descriptive Research Design: Parents’ Attitude Towards the
New Normal in Education
2. Correlational Design: What is the relationship of Social Eco-
nomic Status and level of adaptation to the Pandemic
3. Quasi-Experimental Design: Learner’s Performance in College
with Interventions
4. Experimental Research Design: Effect of Sunlight on the
Growth of Monggo Seed

Always take note the differences between Quantitative and Quali-

tative Researches. Quantitative Research aims to characterize
trends and patterns. It often involves numbers and measure-
ments. Qualitative Research on the other hand, involves process-
es, feelings, and motives (why’s and how’s) and procedures in-
depth and holistic data.

Task 4. Make your official hashtag for this module. Write your hashtag by completing
the statement. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

Task 5. Write at least three possible topics/titles you want to work with in
your Quantitative Research Proposal. Do this on your answer sheet. Consider this:

1. _________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________
2. _________________________________________________________________________

Assess Your Learning

TRUE OR FALSE.

_______________1. Research design is a systematic approach that a researcher uses to

conduct a scientific study that aims to come up with accurate result.

_______________2. Quasi- Experimental Research design “True experimentation” uses

scientific method to establish cause and effect relationship among a group of variables
in a research study.

_______________3. Quantitative methods are those that deal with data that could be
not measured.

_______________4. The effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable

are collected and analyzed for a relationship in an Experimental Design.

________________5. Descriptive Research explores the relationship between variables

using statistical analyses
