Chapter 1

Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study:

Social Media is essential in our daily lives. Especially in Covid 19 Pandemic that

became one of the vital needs in our daily lives. In social media, interaction among

people in which they share, create, and exchange ideas and information on virtual

communities and networks. Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok are the most used

social media sites by Filipinos. They share and exchange ideas, and it is where

social media influencers create and share their opinions, talents, and traits. That

affects a lot by social media influencers in the daily lives and habits of a person.

Influencers promote themselves and are role models to the social media that

makes followers and netizens like and followed them more. Not all social media

influencers are suitable for society. Not all of what you see on the internet and

social media are true. Also, not all social media influencers are a good model or

effect to the students.

Nowadays, they believe what they saw on Social Media that makes students gain

attention on what they should be doing, purchasing, and judging the right decisions

in life. They believe in the recommendations and suggestions of there favorites

Social Media Influencers without looking further at what it is like to be and the

resources. Every Day is a new trend in Social Media. The subconsciousness drives

out one decision-making of a student perspective. Kelman’s Theory on social

influence will contribute to the students in their influential perspective of Social

Media.

1.2 Statement of the Problem:

General Objective:

This study will determine the effect of Social Media Influencers on senior

high school students.

Specific Objectives:

 To evaluate the effect of Social Media Influence on senior high school

students.

 To analyze the theory and process of the social media influence.

They can form new friendships, share their views and opinions, and even build

'new identities' through social media networks. Students are often exposed to a new

way of learning through social media. People create content, post it, bookmark it,

and network rapidly on social media, which has exploded as a category of online

discourse. Since of its ease of utilize, speed, and reach, Social Media is quick

changing the open address in society and setting trends and agenda on topics that

range from the environment and politics to technology and the entertainment

industry. As we adapt to our increasingly technological environment, our social

interactions are impacted in various ways as the popularity of social networking

websites grows. The course web users connect and communicate with one another

has evolved and continues to evolve. These users now socialize through the

internet, detracting from the traditional person-to-person interaction that has

existed for centuries. The way we connect face-to-face, how we obtain

information, and the dynamics of our social groups and friends have been all

influenced by social networking websites. This study is beneficial to the following:

Senior High School Students: understand and aware of the inappropriate and

suitable content for them.

Social Media Influencers: gain knowledge and idea on what content they should

post and do.

Teachers: gain knowledge of what influences the Senior High School Students on

their Study.

Parents: know what and who Influences their child.

Future Researchers: may use this as their future investigations related to their field

of Study.

1.4 Scope and Delimitations:

The Research will focus on the Influence of Social Media Influencers

on Senior High School Students. Variables include the following:

Compliance, Identification, and Internalization.

The Study will run for four (4) weeks of the academic year 2020-

2021. The respondents of the study are the students at the University of San

Agustin Senior High Department. Because of the number of students

enrolled in the department, the researchers have decided to limit the selected

strands due to the number of stuents was enrolled in the department.

Questionnaires are going to distribute to students.

Definitions of Terms:

For clarification and understanding, the following terms in this Study defined

operationally and conceptually:

Influence is to affect or change someone or something in an indirect but usually

important way. (Merriam-Webster online) In this Study, power is to cause

someone to change an attitude and other behavior that people have. Influence is

about changing.

Influencers one who exerts influence; a person who inspires or guides the actions

of others. (Merriam-Webster online) In this Study, influencers influence people

differently and promote services and services, products, or events via social media.

Social Media is a website and application that enable users to create and share

content or participate in social networking. (Oxford Languages online) In this

study, Social Media is internet-based and gives quick communication. The

platform where they share and exchange ideas.
