“Measure It Up”
To identify the difference between velocity and uniform acceleration in one dimension
To measure and calculate average speed and average acceleration
Materials:
Tape measure
Pencil/Pen
Paper
Stopwatch
Procedure:
1. Find a volunteer who will walk and run during this experiment.
2. Find an area by which you will let the volunteer walk/run for about 20 meters.
3. Place a marker on the starting point up to the 20 meter end of the walking/running
area.
4. Let the volunteer walk in a normal speed along the walking/running area from the
starting point to the end point. Record the time it took for the volunteer to reach the 20
5. Let the volunteer run as fast as the volunteer can along the walking/running area from
the starting point to the end point. Record the time it took for the volunteer to reach the
6. Calculate the acceleration from 0m/s to the average walking speed, from 0m/s to the
average running speed, and from average walking speed to average running speed.
7. Create your tabulated data for and show your solutions in your calculation.
I observe that my body is tested and it made me sweat. I tried it three times but first I
warmed up because I got strain in my muscles that’s why I cant run properly.
Data, Calculations and Results:
Conclusion:
I conclude that I walk in an average of 1.51m/s but that would be higher when I’m
walking in a mall or when I am in a rush. I also had an average of 4.05m/s in a 20meter run but
that would be improved because I’m still recovering from my Vastus Lateralis Muscle strain.
