ELLIPTICAL SENTENCE

1. Positive

Kalimat positif (be) + and + subject + verb (be) + too

Kalimat positif (be) + and + so + verb ( be) + subject

Contoh :
I am happy, and you are too = I am happy, and so are you.

Kalimat positif + and + subject + auxiliary + too

Kalimat positif + and + so + auxiliary + subject

Contoh :
You will work in that office, and your friend will too =
You will work in that office, and so will your friend.
Ketika kalimatnya tidak terdapat auxiliary, maka tambahkan auxiliary yang
tepat dengan tensenya.
Contoh :
• I goes to that school and my sister does too =
I goes to that school and so does my sister.
• My teacher lives in that city and I do too=
My teacher lives in that city and so do I.
• I wrote a letter last night and my sister did too =
I wrote a letter last night and so did my sister.

2. Negative

Kalimat negatif + and + subject + auxiliary negarif / be+ either

Kalimat negatif + and + neither + auxiliary positif / be + subject

Contoh :
 I didn’t have breakfast this morning. My chairmate didn’t breakfast this
morning.
• I didn’t have breakfast this morning and my chairmate didn’t either.
• I didn’t have breakfast this morning and neither did my chairmate.

NOTE :

Seldom, never, rarely, hardly, few, little, barely, nothing, no memiliki pengertian
yang negatif. Contoh :

This girl never watches TV and I don’t either.

This girl never watches TV and neither do I.

3. Opposite Elliptics
But (tetapi) digunakan dalam konteks kalimat yang bertentangan.
Contoh :
• I am a student. You are not a student.
I am a student but you are not.
• I don’t like noodle. My brother likes noodle.
I don’t like noodle but my brother does.
