CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
a. Background and nature of the project

Going out, exploring what the world has to put forward, or exploring some land of
nature and viewing the beauty of environment and knowing the lifestyles of vegetation
and expanding the view of distinctive groups of sites and building including remarkable
structures that built as venues for social event or visitor destination.

Health, Resort and Agricultural industry covers a large number of workplaces that
provides services like accommodations, physical therapy, meals and drinks as well as
farm and villas. Architecturally speaking, resort presents the opportunity to challenge the
esthetic uniformity that currently plagues the design of public place. The search for
misunderstood modernity has spawned a generation of dismal clones all over the planet,
in no way lightening the dreary burden of endless preconceived ideas afflicting the
traditional resort industry. Agriculture is a new feature of resort where the landscape are
the vegetation around and it give the designed more pleasure or relaxation to the visitors.
The visitors may participate in the agricultural activities passively as they knowing the
way of it. The wellness feature of resort is presenting as the new way of healing with a
good ambience and relaxing nature around it. The new trend of tourism today is an
alternative way of having a better and efficient healthy life.

As the early time the farming is the main source of living of all the people around
the world. Time passes it evolves with the new look and new trend with combining some
feature new facilities and even more activities. With the relaxing features of resort it also
good mixture of a facility with a good atmosphere and ambience.

Health tourism offered the therapeutic style of healing, just like physical therapy,
yoga, massage, and spa. The increasing of upgrading trends of tourism is a good
development in the land especially for the people to have a good condition and to get
away to their day-to-day stresses.

The increasing number of tourist around the world can cause of major
development of tourism. With that improvement the up-rising of growth in tourism is
increasing, it giving up with new trends and economical factors.

The trend is classified as a new character or new feature in a type of structure.

Base on studies, “the countries around the world are turning to tourism as a strategy for
development” (Sharplay &Telfer, 2002, Pp.35). This means that the tourism is one of the
most strategic developments in the world.

Some of the countries around the world are now developing the agricultural
tourism or agri-tourism. Like in United State of America (USA), they improve some farm
sites in to a tourist spot and putting up new establishment and structure to promote their
economical factor. In the West Michigan, “Berry farms” is one of the pioneers of agri-
torism in the place. They put many activities like parks, commercial and tour to the farm,
thru that the tourist on West Michigan is increasing.

The farms around the US is developing through the agri-tourism, some are
converting into a commercial establishment to promote their livestock just like an expo
and some are converting into a specialized tourist spot were the visitors can tour around
on their site and creating a activity for some event and the other trend is to convert into a
resort were all of the amenities of resort is there. Many people around the world are well
known about the improvement of the new trend of tourism.

The Philippines today, is now adopting the new trend where the country is
surrounding by agriculture. The Department of Tourism (DOT) is starting a program to
promote agri-tourism in the country. Some provinces in the country is starting to develop
their land into a commercial industry and maintaining the agriculture in the side. Like in
San Benito Batangas, The resort named “The Farm” is a farm resort where the site is full
of fruit and vegetable farm and the main amenities is the wellness and farm resort. The
farm resort on the country is going to increase due to the program and developing their
land.

The Bulacan is one of the biggest farm sites in the country, the farm resort is now
in Bulacan is starting to grow. In Plaridel, the farm resort there is a rice field and fish
pond, they use it as their amenities and by adding resort it just took more tourist to come
the area.

b. Statement of the problem

As tourism and travel industry have become an integral part of people’s social and
economic lifestyle, resorts have been transformed into crossroads of our nomadic society.
Based on what the people needs today is to go out or leave in a very peaceful place and
more closer to the nature. Much of the world’s population seems to be in perpetual
motion that is why resorts are made and design for this intention.

Today’s resort is not just a place in which to relax and to give comfort, luxury and
leisure. In this generation, resorts meets tourists increasing demands for leisure, hence,
and business industry needs to develop and business factor in the land. Moreover, society
expects more and more variety of entertainment and resorts are meeting the challenge
with escalating demands.

In the Philippines, resorts development is still the usual resort that offers business,
pleasure, comfort, luxury and leisure. And we are being left behind in the fast moving
development of tourism’s new trends, environmental and technologies. The resorts in
Philippines are underprovided some need for the visitors, such as the facilities can’t
accommodate the need of leisure and entertainment and also the security of tourist space
needs. And some of resort is lack of maintaining the amenities due to the abuse of the
uses on it.

At present, agriculture and wellness resort facilities are scattered all over the
world and it is made more and more entertaining, that our country still doesn’t have
much. Furthermore, there is a need to upgrade these facilities like resorts with new aspect
and the ambience to develop that will help boost our economy and tourism industry.
Viewed as an ecological concern, the wellness farm-resort facility will encourage people
to come to the entire province and experience the Filipino hospitality.

c. Project objectives

The objective of the project is to improve the development of tourism in the

country, and to encourage people to create a new style of industry that can help our nature
and to uplift our economy. Thru this project, it will start with a new trend of a how will
develop our agricultural industry with tourism factor.

1. To establish a new trend of tourism specialize in the agriculture and wellness

in resort.

2. To diversify the local economic base through the introduction of another

economic activity supplementing agriculture.

3. To establish a better resort specialize in the health through therapy.

4. To establish the major consideration of requirements in agricultural and

tourism development.

5. To help maintain the rural landscape by providing motivation to maintain the

farms through the economic benefits of tourism.

6. To establish a resort that will accommodate the full needs of the tourist and it
will sustain the safety and security on every visitor.

7. To promote the cultural heritage of Calumpit.

d. Significance of the Problem

The combination of nature and modern design, this medical agri-resort will be a
prototype of the future structure that will accommodate the agricultural and
therapeutically amenities. This project, will promote the country’s tourism and
environmental concern. This way, jobs will be created resulting in the upgrading of the
lives of many people. The resort will provide the opportunity to the people to gain job, the
farmers can also be part of this employment because of their knowledge in farming.

The demand of tourist and visitors in the country may cause a rapidly increase of
tourism especially in provincial area where the resort and inn are barely needed if on the
season. The structure of farm will help the resort facility livelier, comfortable and
efficient through the benefits they give on it. And it will promote the traditional
hospitable Filipino culture and the style of planting vegetables and therapy.

On the new aspects on the tourism, people use to improve the growing factor of
their land, by using of trends of tourism they study and establish the nature as a new
theoretical trend in development in tourism and that trend is called ecological tourism or
eco-tourism.

Through that factor the number of tourist establishment and structure is now
increasing and it’s all around the world. It more defines by developing the resorts with
those new features and had new satisfactory appearances on it. It also up-lifting and
promoting the sustainable designed structures.
The ecological and health trends can also focus or to improve in other aspect, such
as in the field of agriculture and medical tourism. It may be impracticable but in study it
helps to sustain the environment and physical health of the people.

Being a known tourist destination in the world, the Philippines can surely attract
foreign tourists to visit the country and spend their vacations or business trips exploring
the unique attractions of our nation thus creating an opportunity not only to promote
tourism but also uplift the social status of the country when it comes to resort.

The Bulacan is now developing their industry in tourism, although some

of the area is agricultural and some is dried land and died farm area. The local
government start to study the hydroponic vegetables to give the alternative way of giving
back the farming area and combining the tourism industry on the land to give
improvement to their development. Through this project the industry of agri-tourism will
start to up-lift the land of Bulacan. This project will be the new point of the agriculture of
the society.

e. Project Scope and limitation

The Project shall include a Farming facility and recreation structure and facilities
with therapy services that will cater tourist amenities such as resort, spa and event hall
amenities. The scope of this project will rely on the certain needs, known facts and
surveys of customers and staffs of such facilities. The project scope is composed by the
study and development of the following:

 The project establishes an economic mark in the industry of new trend of

tourism. The main feature is the resort and will contain a cottages, inn, swimming pools,
restaurant and bar, recreation area and multi-purpose hall.

 The project will provide the wellness facilities like therapy amenities such as
spa, massage, yoga or meditation area, gym and a small sports station like tennis and
basketball court.

 The project will contain a landscape by using a agricultural farming such as

greenhouse and garden all around the site.

 The project may include commercial facilities like retail store, souvenir shops
and office for administration.
