WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Since we were kids, everyone in our surroundings has been telling us what success is.
Our parents, teachers, friends, movies, celebrities on social media, and almost everyone
tell us what it means to be successful. It should, however, not be a surprise that
everyone may give you a different definition of success. This is because success is not a
simple concept. It is subjective and personal. Each person can have a different concept
of it, and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t mean that one or the other is
wrong. What is wrong is using someone else’s definition of success to measure your
own success. Fighting and suffering to be “successful” according to someone else’s idea
of success, and never getting there or getting there and realizing that it is not what you
hoped for, is not what you want. This does not mean that you shouldn’t take advice
from other people. But before climbing a mountain, you should know if you really want
to achieve what is on top. Otherwise, once you get there you may realize it was the
wrong mountain.
So, before you find yourself striving to be “successful” according to someone else’s standards, take a moment to
think about what success means for you.
