Barriers to communication are the factors or components that create problem in understanding the
meaning of the massage.
Use of jargons
Jargons are the special words or language of a specific field. When someone use more jargons terms
related to a specific field it create communication complicated. And it is difficult for others to absorb
that communication. May be receiver and sender have different meaning and understanding of the
word and miscommunication occur.
Emotional barriers
Problem can be arise in communication when receiver have conflicting emotions about the subject or
the sender. May be there are some taboo terms we should avoid it. and if the receiver is not emotional
well like he is angry and too much stressed than you can’t pay proper attention to massage. And some
persons are introvert so they shy to express their views. So these are the emotional barriers to
communication.
Physical disability
Physical disability can also become a barrier in communication. For example, a person has hearing
problems or weak eyesight or speech disorder like stammering so its create communication, poor.
Nonverbal communication
Nonverbal communication means communicating without usings like face expressions symbols etc. and
nonverbal communication express more felling and emotions than spoken and written communication.
So, when we can’t see body language and gestures it makes the massage less effective as it has less
feelings and emotions. So, emails, wattsapps massages are less effective than face to face
communication.
Language difference
Language differences is also a barrier. One word have different meaning in different languages. Or even
when the massage is translated into another language than it lost its essence. As translator thinking
influence on the massage. And different language accent can also be a barrier.
Expectation and prejudices
When a person is biased and if the communication is different from his expectation then he is not ready
to take the massage. And whatever you say he will avoid it, not absorb it and stick to his previous claims.
So expectation and prejudices can be barrier in communication.
Psychological factors
Psychological state of sender and receiver also influence on the transmission on the massage. Like when
a person is stressed than his mind is preoccupied and he is not ready to receive the massage and try to
avoid it.
And when a person is angry then his response may be differ from what he really wants to say. In anger
we say such things which we later ashamed and feel sorry.
And when a person has low self esteem. He feel shy to communicate and consider other interpret his
saying in a wrong way and not feel comfortable in communication and try to avoid his response.
Physiological factors
Physiological barrier can arise from the physical situation of the communicators. For example, a person
has hearing problems or weak eyesight or speech disorder like stammering so its create communication,
poor. Or if there is a background noise in communication process then receiver may face problem in
understanding the massage.

communication express more felling and emotions than spoken and written communication. So, when

massages are less effective than face to face communication.
Systematic barrier
Systematic barrier occur in an organization where there is inefficient information system and
communication channels. In this kind of organization, people are unaware with their roles and
responsibilities in communication process and unaware with that what is expected from them. those
who serves as flow of information may be inefficient and ineffective simply means they are unaware
with their roles in communication process.
Attitudinal barrier
Attitudinal behavior may prevent a person to communicate effectively. Attutidinal barriers may arise
from resistance to change, lack of management etc. a person has to overcome his attitudinal behaviour
to communicate effectively. Receiver attitude regarding sender may influence the massage.
