RESEARCH PROPOSAL
This study is focused on an invention to help aid the risks of getting infection

while living an everyday life in the middle of a pandemic.

DESCRIPTION

When thinking of a community problem, it could be surmised that the pandemic is

one of the first that comes in mind. A pandemic is defined as an epidemic of an

infectious disease that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple

continents or worldwide, affecting a substantial number of people. The pandemic

caused deaths across different countries and spread fear among people which caused

the COVID-19 to become one of the biggest issues/problem as of today. And one of

those is the change it brought in the people’s daily lives.

As this paper goes deeper into the extent, features and highlights of the

researchers’ team’s creation, the main problems this paper emphasized on are:

● The risk of getting infected by getting in direct contact with items used in public

such as,

- Doors in shops, malls and public toilet

- Press buttons for elevators and door bells,

- Touch screen machines like ATM’s, gas stations and store checkouts

● The viability of the COVID-19 virus to remain much longer on objects such as,

- Plastics where the virus can stay up to 72 hours

- Stainless Steel where the virus can also stay up to 72 hours

- Cardboard where the virus can stay up to 24 hours

 In turn, a helpful tool is developed from an idea to a project proposal to address

these certain issues – Kairos.

OBJECTIVES

The long-term goal of this research is to produce and introduce a permanent

helpful tool to ease and slow the risk of being infected in the middle of the pandemic.

This study is also established on the following objectives:

 To provide a useful and beneficial simple machine for people’s everyday use

 To help every citizen to carry on with their daily life activities safely and

conveniently

 To develop a versatile equipment in the future with this product as basis for

future researchers

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study specifically the findings and product of this research will redound to the

benefit of the society as a whole. This research is highly significant to the following

sectors:

World-wide Citizens. The people from various parts of the world will benefit from this

research as they will be informed of the bad effects the pandemic have brought to

mankind. They will also be protected from worse effects of the virus as they are the

target users of the product where this research is focused on.

Mechanical Engineering Students. The students taking up this course will be

knowledgeable of other ideas for the greater good of the people in the middle of the

pandemic.

Future Researchers. They can establish a deeper and more funded study to continue

this preliminary research and better provide a complex machine to fully eradicate the

risk of infection not just from COVID-19 but from other diseases as well.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The proponents employed descriptive evaluative and descriptive-comparative

research design in order to recognize and determine the best design that will provide

and demonstrate the maximum potential of the product, as well as the maximum

efficiency of the product’s material to be use. It is best to use qualitative research

because, in quantitative research, the proponents’ aim is to determine the relationship

between an independent variable and a dependent or outcome variable, in a population

(Hopkins, 2008). In this proposal, the proponents used descriptive research because it

shows the thorough assessment of the importance of product to the convenience of its

user. Using the research design, the proponents were able to utilize the data that was

gathered from the boundless researches done by the proponents. As a descriptive

research is defined as one in which information is collected without changing the

environment. It was used to obtain information concerning the current status of the

phenomena to describe "what exists" with respect to variables or conditions in a

situation. (Posinasetti, 2014). The descriptive evaluative approach was used to

determine the level of convenience of the product on the citizens amidst pandemic.

While the descriptive-comparative approach was used to scrutinize the acquired data to
know if there is a significant difference on the level of convenience of the product and its

maximum efficiency and potential when it is use.
