What is It

Dr awi ng Concl usi ons

Fatatado (2016) emphasized that for any research project and any
scientific discipline, drawing conclusions is the final, and most important,
part of the process.
Keep in mind the following concept:
 Conclusions must have the value of argument of your research work.
 Always remember that conclusion is not a summary of your work.
Thus, it is a listing of major outcomes derived from your research
study.
 Don’t state what has been done in your work, instead bring out the
outcome of the results and discussions in terms of statement.
 The conclusion is the answer of the main problem of the study

Bunton (2005) states that conclusions in research provide you with

important opportunities to demonstrate to the reader your understanding of
the research problem which includes the following:
 Present the last word on the issues or gaps raised in your paper.
 Summarize your thoughts and convey the larger significance of your
study.
 Identify how a gap in the literature has been addressed.
 Demonstrate the importance of your ideas.
 Introduce possible new or expanded ways of thinking about the
research problem.

GENERAL RULES OF CRAFTING CONCLUSIONS OF A QUANTITATIVE

RESEARCH PAPER

1. State your conclusions clearly with simple language. State how your
findings differ or support those others and why.
2. Don’t simply reiterate your results or the discussion of your results.
Thus, provide synthesis of arguments presented in the paper
3. Indicate opportunities for future research if you haven’t done so in
the discussion section in your paper.
4. Highlighting the need for further research provides the reader with
evidences that you have an in-depth awareness of the research
problem (Creswell, 2012).

Formulating the Recommendations of the Study

In making recommendations in your research paper, you must show

how your result support them. A recommendation should include:
 specific items on what should be done, the steps required to
implement policy, and resources needed; d
 discussion of the benefits to the organization and what problem
would be corrected or avoided; and
 general statement about the nature and timing of an evaluation plan
that would be used to determine the effectiveness of the proposed
policy (Creswell, 2012).

9
Directions: Give what is asked. Write your answers inside the figures.

1. What are the concepts to be considered upon drawing conclusion on the

results of your research study? Write them inside the figure.

2. According to Bunton (2005) conclusions in research provide you with

important opportunities to demonstrate to the reader your understanding of
the research problem which includes the following:

10
3. What are the general rules in crafting conclusions in your research paper?

GENERAL RULES

4. In making recommendations in your research paper, you must show how

your result supports them. A recommendation should include:

What I Can Do

A. Directions: Draw a conclusion out of the research findings presented below.

Write your conclusions on the blanks provided.

1. Poverty and unemployment seemed to be a major problem for the respondents

and if they do not have the resources to travel to the health services or have
money for nutritional food they would either default treatment or take longer to be
cured.

2. Although the knowledge of TB has increased since the implementation of the

DOTS strategy, there are still signs of a lack of knowledge such as that TB is not
only a disease of the lungs.

3. The respondents were also not very clear on the ways in which TB spreads and
did not know that not all people infected with TB would become ill. It is clear from
the findings that the nurses educated the patients, family and community on TB
and they should be commended on the work they do, but should keep up the
education of the community as there were still areas that needed attention.

4. Unfriendly and uncaring nursing staff would, according to the respondents, cause
them to stop their treatment. Although this aspect was not probed more to
determine whether there was a real problem in this area, nursing personnel
should remember that patients look up to them for help, knowledge and support
and that they should always treat patients with respect. The role of the nurse
featured greatly in the findings whereupon the success of the DOTS strategy
hinged. This places a great responsibility on the shoulders of the nurse but can
also be seen as a compliment for the profession.

5. The research findings revealed that almost half of the respondents smoked
cigarettes which were detrimental for their health, and more than half of the
respondents used alcohol on a regular basis. Nurses should take note of this
finding and also educate TB patients on the effect smoking and the drinking of
alcohol has on their general health.
