Summative Test 1
2ND SEM-QUARTER 2/ WEEK 5 & 6
Name: Sammer Faye T. Bisnar Score:
Grade/Section: 12-STEM Date: June 8, 2021

CALCULATION (15 pts)

Direction: Read the given research scenario carefully. Write the null and alternative hypothesis and calculate for the mean,
median and mode. Decide whether to accept or reject the null hypothesis with the given p-value below at 95% Confidence
Interval (α=0.05). Generate a conclusion out of the results.

1. Yanny Agbayani is a daughter of a farmer who wants to determine the effects of using organic vermicultured fertilizer
on the growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa). After several weeks of composting, Yanny was able to formulate an organic
fertilizer. She evaluated the efficiency of her fertilizer using 10 seedling replicates in a Randomly Complete Block Design
with 3 Treatments: Treatment A without fertilizer, Treatment B with vermicultured fertilizer and Treatment C with
commercial fertilizer. The results of his study were written below. Using Independent T-test analysis in SPSS software, the
calculated p-value at 95% Confidence Interval (α=0.05) was 0.1888.

Null Hypothesis There is no significant effect in using organic

(Ho) vermicultured fertilizer on the growth of lettuce (Lactuca
sativa).

Alternative Hypothesis There is a significant effect in using organic

(Ha) vermicultured fertilizer on the growth of lettuce (Lactuca
sativa).
Mean A= 6.06 Mean B= 9.8 Mean C= 9.15

Median A= 6.15 Median B= 9.85 Median C= 9.05

Mode A= 6.9 Mode B= 10.6 Mode C= None

P-value 0.1888

α 0.05

Decision The vermicultured fertilizer with p-value 0.18 > 0.05

alpha level illustrates that there is no significant
relationship between the variables. Therefore, the null
hypothesis is accepted.
Conclusion Therefore, it is concluded that the vermicultured
fertilizer has no effect on the growth of lettuce.

1. Marsha Lou tested the efficiency of her aquaponic biofilter system on the growth of alugbati (Basella
rubra). After 8 weeks of experimental trial, the results of the study were elaborated below. Using statistical
t-test, the calculated p-value at standard confidence interval was 0.5332. Decide whether to reject or accept
the null hypothesis.

Null Hypothesis There is no significant effect in aquaponic biofilter system

(Ho) on the growth of alugbati (Basella rubra).

Alternative There is a significant effect in aquaponic biofilter system on

Hypothesis (Ha) the growth of alugbati (Basella rubra).

Mean A= 13.741 Mean B= 14.517

Median A= 13.63 Median B= 14.55

Mode A= None Mode B= None

P-value 0.5332

α 0.05

Decision The statistical analysis with 0.5332 > 0.05 alpha level
revealed that there is no significant effect on the growth of
alugbati upon using aquaponic biofilter. Therefore, the null
hypothesis is accepted.
Conclusion In conclusion, aquaponic biofilter has no effect on the
growth of alugbati.
