Judging Criteria:
In View of COVID’ 19, the Local Level of Abul Kalam Design Challenge 2021 will be held on
the following modules:

 Presentation – 70 %
 Technical Report Writing – 30%

1. Criteria for Presentation:

1.1. The maximum length of the presentation is 8~12 minutes plus, typically, two minutes for
questions for the Regional Competitions. The presentation can be delivered by any number
of team members, from one person to all members of the team. Computer and projector
facilities with common software will be available.

1.2. The presentation should include but is not limited to.

a) the principal features of the final design,
b) the engineering science that underpins the device,
c) the steps the team followed to arrive at the design, and
d) the total cost of the final design and if/how costs influenced the final design
1.3. The presentation will be assessed by the appointed judges, by the marking scheme below:

2. Criteria for Technical Report:
This module tests the team’s ability to document their design as well as tasks the team to highlight
the steps that would be followed if the device were to be fabricated. The report should consist of:

2.1. Principal features of the final design, in detail

2.2. Steps followed to arrive at the design in detail, including previously considered designs, if
applicable
2.3. Design Verification, which must constitute of but not limited to:
a) Visualization of design through mediums such as sketch(es), 2D models, Paper-
based drawings. [3D model and CAD model (Optional)]
b) Idealizations and assumptions are considered for the design process.
c) Complete theoretical analysis of the engineering science that underpins the design.
d) Calculations made as part of the theoretical analysis, that validate your design based
on the Mass and Inertia of your Design.
2.4. Manufacturing process if the design was to be fabricated, including an overview of the
assembly process e.g. usage of nuts, bolts, adhesive, etc. to assemble the individual
components.
2.5. Cost analysis
2.6. Advantages/pros of the proposed design. The report should consist of the sections
highlighted in the report format and must cover the topics highlighted above.
