While I was preparing this project various information that I found helped me in
module Professional practice and I am glad that I was able to complete this project and understand
many things. Through preparation of this computer science project was an immense learning
experience and I inculcated many personal qualities during this process like responsibility,
punctuality, confidence, and others.

I would like to thank to my teachers who supported me all the time, cleared my doubts and to my
parents who also played a big role in finalization of my project file. I am taking this opportunity to
acknowledge their support and I wish that they keep supporting me like this in the future.

A project is a bridge between theoretical and practical learning and with this thinking I worked on
the project and made it successful due to timely support and efforts of all who helped me.

Once again, I would like to thank my classmates and my friends also for their encouragement and
help in designing and making my project creative. I am in debt of all these. Only because of them I
was able to create my project and make it good and enjoyable experience.

Task 2

1. What is ethics?
 The term ethics can refer to the philosophical study of the concepts of right and wrong
and good and bad behavior, to any philosophical teaching of right and wrong or good
and bad behavior, and to any system or code of ethics, principles, or values. The latter
may be associated with certain religions, cultures, technologies, or at least some other
group that is at least divisive in its moral sense. [ CITATION bri18 \l 1033 ]

2. What are social norms?

 Social norms, or ethics, are unwritten rules of conduct that are considered acceptable in
a group or community. Procedures work to provide order and predictability to the
public. All in all, people want to be accepted, they want to be their member, and those
who do not follow the rules will be tortured or expelled from the group. This is how we
keep society functioning, not only through specific rules but also expectations. When
people know what is expected of them, they are often complacent. While some people
want to be different, most just want to be part of the group.

 Habits can change according to the environment, situation, and culture where they are
found, and people's behavior will also change accordingly. Social norms may also
change or change over time.

3. What is code of conduct?

 A high-quality Code of Conduct is an official document that clearly outlines how a
company's employees should behave daily in the workplace. [ CITATION Bet20 \l 1033
]
Social media
 The concept of human communication precedes the Internet and mass communication
as human beings called human beings that when working in groups can achieve results
that are more important than the sun of its parts. The explosive growth in the use of
social media over the past decade has made it one of the most popular Internet services
in the world, offering new "visibility and visibility" options. The use of social media
has changed the nature of communication that has led to changes in values and
behavior. An unprecedented rate of growth in consumption has led to a reduction in the
use of other media and changes in areas that include social and political participation,
privacy, and security. Alexa, the company that keeps track of traffic on the Web, shows
that as of August 2019, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter are among the top 4 most
visited sites with only Google, the most popular search engine, surpassing social media
sites.

 Social networking sites can be defined as online services that allow users to create
“public, public” profiles or both. Users can create individual profiles and / or be part of
a group of people they can interact with offline. They also offer ways to build
meaningful friendships. With this visible friendship, people can access information
about your contacts from personal background information and interests to location.
Social networking sites offer a variety of tools to facilitate communication. This
includes chat rooms, blogs, private messages, public comments, ways to upload off-site
content and share videos and photos. Social media is therefore very much changing the
way people communicate and build relationships. [ CITATION Ash20 \l 1033 ]
Privacy and social media
 Social interaction and information / digital time "redefined" privacy. In today’s Information
Technology — prepared societies, where there is ongoing monitoring, privacy has taken on
a whole new meaning. Technologies such as closed-circuit breakers (CCTV) are very
common in public or other private areas including our work and home. Computers and
personal devices like our smart phones powered by the Global Positioning System (GPS),
Geo locations and Geo maps are connected to these devices that make privacy as we know
it, a thing of the past. Recent reports indicate that some large companies such as Amazon,
Microsoft and Facebook and various government agencies are collecting data without
permission and archiving it for future use. It is almost impossible to say that privacy exists
in this digital world.

 The open nature of social networking sites and the ways in which they provide information
sharing in the "public or public" space create private concerns about their design.
Information that is not suitable for other audiences is often unintentionally made to appear
in groups other than the intended one and can sometimes lead to negative consequences for
the future. One such example is a well-known case documented in the article "The Web
Means the End of Forgetfulness" involving a young woman who was denied a college
license due to harassment on social media photos where she did private research.

 Technology has narrowed the gap between professional and personal spaces and often leads
to the disclosure of information to the wrong audience [19]. Reducing the segregation of
professional and personal spaces can affect image management especially in the context of
professionalism leading to the erosion of traditional artistic imagery and the management
of ideas. Determining the second use of personal information by those who have access to
this information should be the sole right of the individual or group. However, engaging in
social media activities has removed this restriction.
 A few examples of situations that could be affected, and affected by the recruitment, visa
approval, and admission of colleges. Indiscriminate participation has led to cases such as
identity theft and bank fraud just to name a few. Protecting privacy in today's network
society can be a major challenge. Digital transformation has distorted our view of privacy,
however, there should be a clear distinction between what the public should see and what
should be limited to the chosen group. Another school of thought that the only way to have
privacy today is to share information with these connected communities. However,
obtaining privacy and controlling the flow of information and disclosure to connected
communities is an ongoing process in an environment where content changes rapidly and is
sometimes blurred. This requires the deliberate construction of systems designed to reduce
privacy issues.

Ethics and social media

 It is not uncommon for individuals to record even the smallest detail of their lives from the
moment they get up to go to bed. They will openly share their location, frequent meals or
details about activities that are generally considered confidential and personal. They will
share likes and dislikes, thoughts, and feelings and most of this has become commonplace.
In most cases, however, these shares contain not only information about the recipient but
also information about others. Many times, this information is shared on several social
media platforms as people try to ensure that all people within their community are kept up
to date with their activities.

 With this openness the sharing of emerging risks and challenges is unthinkable but can
have negative consequences. The speed and scale with which social media creates
information and makes it available - almost always - all over the world, in addition to the
fact that if something is posted there is no real way to remove it, it should make people
think about the potential impact on the post. Unfortunately, often, posts are made without
considering the far-reaching impact it can have on the lives of the sender or others who
may be affected by the post. [ CITATION Nad20 \l 1033 ]
Social norms in social media
 The media has great potential for influencing certain beliefs, attitudes, and behavior.
Therefore, social norms that influence and promote gender-based violence are directed at
policy interventions through mass media communication. Previous research suggests that
the media is influenced by two outcomes: a personal or direct (private) outcome or a social
or indirect effect (public). As a result, media coverage of new practices may entice people
to adopt them. As a result of social, data creates general knowledge of the process and
improves social cohesion as people readily accept that information if they believe that
others have accepted it as well. The study examined whether the media communication
system had a stronger impact than it did in changing the conditions of violence against
women.

 The study conducted a natural and unlimited study of the indigenous community of San
Bartolome Quiana in Oaxaca, Mexico using a multi-part soap radio program that shed light
about violent relationships. The soap opera was broadcast through a public microphone and
only reached the public part due to environmental conditions (forming part of the natural
experiment). Families at the access of the loudspeaker were randomly invited to listen to a
soap opera at a community meeting or to be able to hear the community broadcast in their
homes. The project examined whether public soap operas soap operas alone were sufficient
to influence trends, and whether creating confidence in general information from face-to-
face contact with community members improved social outcomes. People outside the
speaker were invited randomly and privately to listen to a soap opera using an audio CD to
test the individual process. Post-intervention research measured attitudes, attitudes, and
behaviors regarding violence against women.[ CITATION Gen19 \l 1033 ]
Task3

Social media Risks

 Many people operate their businesses alone through the

web, using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter,
YouTube, etc., as their primary medium of
communication. Whereas effective, this approach will go
together with its own set of risks. The gains it nets are
proportionate to the legal problems your business can be
exposed to if not taken care of properly on time.

Legal Issues in Social Media

Revealing Confidential Information

 The most common yet foremost dangerous legal issue regarding social media is that the
disclosure of tips. Oftentimes, the secrets of your business or some valuable information
regarding shares and policies could also be leaked out by the worker or the other party with
information. This could pose an immediate threat to your business. you will lose your
business thanks to its downfall, or someone can overtake it using all your secret
information. The best thanks to avoiding this are often by constantly revising the policies of
your company and relay it to all or any of your employees.

Illegal Use of Trademarks

 There are two ways of employing a trademark. One is that the positive aspect while the
opposite completely negative. The positive aspect includes using the trademark of a
corporation with its knowledge. Businesses often allow the use of their trademarks which is
in their knowledge. This way, their company is additionally getting promoted. However,
the negative way is to use another business’s trademark as yours or employing it as a way
of creating money. The solution is that the social media sites must ensure to strictly prohibit
the utilization of a trademark by an unauthorized user.

Defaming Problems

 Using statements that would defame a business is another legal issue rampant on social
media. Oftentimes, the people involved in business, or those that were once a part of the
business, post unethical and defaming remarks on social media. this might sound trivial,
but it may result in serious repercussions. Even anonymous posts are often traced to seek
out the name of the person. (Top 5 Legal Issues in Social Media, 2021)
Ambiguous Posts on Social Media
 Avoiding social media today is impractical. However, because posts, statuses, or tweets on
social media are small-length messages, they often appear ambiguous. Your innocent
message could also be interpreted in multiple ways. this might become a significant
problem for you and your company.

Illegal Use of Copyrighted Work

 Unauthorized use of copyright work, like videos, photos, articles, websites, is another
common legal issue today. this is often highly unethical also as a criminal offense, using
someone else’s copyrighted work without their permission. The protection is to tell the
workers about privacy. While posting your work on social media, highlight that your work
is copyright protected. The above issues are the highest rated problems today for businesses
operating within the online environment. However, there are often more ways to breach
privacy laws through social media. Just skills to guard your work and you will be saved
from these legal issues. (Issues in Ethics: Ethical Use of Social Media, 2021)

Ethical and legal issues

 Despite the range of positive uses of social media for both individual PT’s and the
profession, there are also several ethical and legal issues associated with its use.

 Social media sites, with user created content, are vehicles to share professional and private
information.

 The concern with the rapid increase in rates of use is that knowledge regarding the potential
dangers implicit in this digital behavior is not growing at the same speed.

 The increased rate of casual use couples with a lack of knowledge regarding the
functionality of social media and platforms, begs for more uniform education on managing
digital dangers.
Main Legal Issues

 Corporate use vs. Employee use of social media.

 Some unlawful activities that may be associated with use of social media,

 Freedom of speech.

 Search and seizure issues.

 Copyright infringement and other intellectual property rights.

 Breach of individual publicity and privacy rights.

 Obscene or defamatory content/statements.

 Several legal risks associated with employee use of social media.

 Claims of discrimination, disparate treatment of employees, hostile work environment,

defamation claims.

Social Media Strategy

 Broadcast messages that resonate most with your audience and relay offline campaigns on
the internet.

 Train internal staff on your clinic’s social media policy and how to manage those accounts
using the tools.

 Develop metrics and institute tracking devices to gauge success (return on investment –
time, money).

 Determine how to deliver promotional content and campaigns through the channels.

 Monitor changes in social media technology, channels, and tools and adjust.
Social media Theories and Philosophies

 Media ethics developed as a field within the context of issues surrounding the 20th century
mass media.

 Media ethicists have advanced thinking to bring it into global and digital media context,
which creates an “open media ethics”.

 Opening media ethics is a matter of:

 Meaningful participation.

 Significant influence on the course of discussion.

 Content determination and revision.

 Transformation related to citizen-based new media with:

 A potential to create a global ethics discourse.

Release of Sensitive/Protected Information (social media)

 Data security: An employee could unwittingly click on links to spam and phishing schemes
or download malicious code onto the company network.

 Re-Posting of material: E-mail messages, firm-wide memos, or employee rants may end up
before a wider audience, with little recourse from the original author.

 Twitter tweets, even if original followers are restricted can be retweeted.

 See e.g., Moreno v. Hanford Sentinel, Inc., 172 Cal.App.4th 1125 (2009) (author who posted
an article on social network site cannot state a cause of action for invasion of privacy against
the person who submitted that article to a newspaper for republication).

 Hackers: Need to maintain security to protect information of your customers/clients.

Basics of a Social Media relevant legislations
 A social media policy may prohibit:

 The disclosure of the employer’s confidential information (which should be defined

elsewhere in the handbook)

 Disparaging remarks about the employer’s products or services

 Disparaging and defamatory comments about competitors and other third parties
(especially if the poster identifies his or her employer)

 Postings that threaten, harass, or intimidate co-workers.

 Postings that endorse the employer’s products or services.

 A social media policy may prohibit:

 Employees from using the employer’s trademark or logo without consent of a

designated company official

 Employees from using the employer’s computer systems or network access for posting
to social media sites that are not sponsored by the employer.

 Postings that violate patient confidentiality or privacy rights under state or federal law
(e.g., HIPAA).

 Where employees are permitted to post on behalf of or for the employer, include policies
limiting when employees may make those posts to control overtime.

Social Media – User Privacy Concerns

 Transparency: The Report calls for companies to obtain affirmative express consent from
consumers for material changes in use of PII.

 Consumer Control: clear statement that,

data about consumers’ activities online is being collected for behavioral advertising.

consumers can choose whether to have their information collected for such purpose.
Task 04

Provide a conclusion with the strong and realistic set of

recommendations.

What is the conclusion of social media in information technology world?

INTRODUCTION

 Considering our generation, Generation Z, is one of the first to grow up in a world fully

immersed in technology, with social media heavily ingrained in our everyday life this is an

important question to ask. Social media opens up many new opportunities, allowing us to

connect with people we otherwise would not, share feelings and many other things, in our

generation, social media and technology play a huge role in how we communicate with

each other, as a form of literacy. These new forms of communication completely change

how we socialize and talk to each other. But at the same time there are a lot of possible

downfalls to it as well, and it can be hard to tell what the actual impacts are. Are the

growing rates of mental health issues caused by social media? Is social media really

making us more social? Or is it altering how we communicate with each other in reality.

METHODOLOGY
 To gather data for our research project, we looked at how people interact with each other.

We used the following three methods and processes to help gather data for our research

project.

 Firstly, we conducted a survey that asked about how people use social media in general–

which platforms they use, how often they use social media, what they use it for, why they

use their phone/social media and briefly, if they noticed any negative effects from it.

 Secondly, we held interviews with individuals, that dove deeper into how they feel about

their usage on social media, how it affects them, about their interactions with other people

on social media and in real life, and how that differs.

 Finally, we made direct observations of our friends, acquaintances, and classmates to see

how they present themselves on social media. We looked at how they interact with other

people in-person and interactions online. Throughout these three methods we have been

able to make some conclusions and a few generalizations about social media usage and the

potential impacts it has on our generation and those who use social media.

FINDING
 We had over 100 responses to the survey we conducted. In our findings, we found:

100% of those surveyed use social media

DISCUSSION

 We found many interesting correlations and discoveries throughout this research process. It
is interesting to note that from all the responses of our survey, 100% of people use social
media, which further proves that this is an issue that we should keep looking at because it is
so prevalent to our society, and especially to our generation. This being said it is important
to note that we posted our survey on various social media’s and sent them out our friends so
those who took our survey were most likely to be user of social media, rather than not be.
 The majority (51%) of people who took our survey, marked for experiencing negative
effects from social media. The affects the listed were FOMO, jealousy, creating high
expectations and more, these are topics many people discuss but don’t do much about.
Even with these affects in mind, the people who use social media yet continue to use it
every day for various reasons. This says a lot about our generation and our attachment to
social media, despite the negative way it makes us feel.

CONCLUSION
 The effects from social media are very complex and vary from person to person. Based on

our data we found that many people either experience negative effects or notice them in

other people. However, in the time we’ve had to conduct research we were not able to find

direct and clear causation, but we are hoping with more time and further research so we can

get clearer conclusions. Please feel free to go to so we can gather more data and help

further our research!

 Another interesting thing to look at based off what we found would to ask participants if

they would actually try decrease their usage of social media. All of the interviewees said

that they want to decrease how much they use social media and their phone in general but

we failed to ask them if they would. With the knowledge of both positive and negative

affects it would be interesting to see if they would and would give good insight into how

addicted our generation is. To continue on with the idea of phone addiction we could look

more into why people use certain apps and how specific apps make them feel. Asking

questions such as “How does going on Snapchat make you feel: 1-10”. These types of

questions could lead to good information that could help us figure out why we are all so

addicted to our devises.

 This is a very complicated and new subject to be researching so there are so many ideas we

can explore and find out about, the ideas are endless! If you have any other ideas for
research questions, or further study please feel free to let us know! Or even better, you can

continue to study this topic as well!

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

 Social media includes networks used for having online conversations and for sharing
content. Hendrix College uses social media to promote its academic mission, student and
faculty achievements, campus events, and to engage with alumni, community members,
and prospective students and families. Many faculty and staff members use social media for
both personal and professional purposes. To protect your personal and professional
reputation, as well as the College’s reputation, Hendrix faculty and staff members should
remember these guidelines:

 Be aware of your audience and be respectful and sensitive about the content you create or
share. Academic freedom and free speech are fully respected at Hendrix, but
faculty/staff/students should avoid creating or sharing content (or engaging in an online
conversation) in a manner that would compromise campus safety, exhibit malicious intent,
or violate College policies.

 Be confidential. Do not publish private or proprietary information about Hendrix, its

students, its alumni, or its employees. Use good judgment and follow College policies and
federal requirements.

 Be effective. In addition to using social media, contact the Office of Communications for
event publicity support and to share good news about the College.

 Be transparent. When appropriate, indicate that your opinions are personal. Avoid conflicts
of interest. If you are compensated for writing a blog post or creating social media content,
see the FTC's website on blogger compensation and disclosure.
