inverse function of y=
Theory: Given that , y= . If x=0 then y=-1 .The graph of y=
intersects the Y-axis at the point (0,-1) and the X-axis at the point (1,0)
Instruments: Practical note book , graph paper , pen , pencil , eraser , ruler ,
calculator etc .
Determination of point of graph of y= :
X 0 1 2 -1 -2
Y -1 0 7 -2 -9
Procedure: (i) In a graph let XOX’ and YOY’ are respectively the x-axis and y-
axis and O be the orign.
(ii) We take 2 sides of smallest squares of the graph paper as unit along
with both axes .
(iii) We plot the points (0 , -1 ) , ( 1 , 0) , ( 2 , 7 ) , ( -1 , -2 ) , (-2 , -9) on the
graph paper and join them each other.

Determination of inverse function:

y=
Let, f(x)=y =
Now, y=
y
x= √y

= √y
Replacing y by x we get ,
=√
Decision: According to the graph , the function represents a curved line and
its inverse function is √ .
Precaution: 1. A sharpened pencil with fine tip has been used to construct a
perfect graph.
2. Much more care has been taken to plot and to join the points.
3. Appropriate values of y has been found out using calculator.
2.Name of Experiment: Drawing the graph and determination of
inverse function of y=
Theory: Given that , y= . If x=0 then y=1 .The graph of y= intersects the
Y-axis at the point (0,1) and the graph of the function will be a curved line
which will remain on the upper part of X-axis.
Instruments: Practical note book , graph paper , pen , pencil , eraser , ruler ,
calculator etc .
Determination of point of graph of y= :
x o 1 2
y 1 4 2 16

Procedure: (i) In a graph let XOX’ and YOY’ are respectively the x-axis and y-
axis and O be the orign.
(ii) We take 2 sides of smallest squares of the graph paper as unit along
with both axes .
(iii) We plot the points (0,1) , (1,4) , ( , 2) , (2,16) on the graph paper and
join them each other.
Determination of inverse function:

Let , f(x)=y =
Now , y=
x=

Replacing y by x we get ,

Determination of point of graph of y=f(x)= :
x o -2 1 2 -1
y 1 0.11 3 9 0.333

Procedure: (i) In a graph let XOX’ and YOY’ are respectively the x-axis and y-
axis and O be the orign.
(ii) We take 2 sides of smallest squares of the graph paper as unit along
with both axes .
(iii) We plot the points (0,1) ,(-2 , 0.11 ) , (1,3) , (2,9) , ( -1, 0.333) on the
graph paper and join them each other.
Determination of domain and range of f(x)= :
