the short story The Life of Cardo by Amador Daguio.

EXPLAIN
After watching the video, answer the following:
1. What is the story all about? -The story about the life of cardo. It is about a man who
really hated most of the people because of his ugliness, people around him think that he is
a son of the devil. He was a seeker for the truth of life
2. In one word, DESCRIBE Cardo and explain your answer
-Mysterious. Because no one really knew cardo. They only knew him as a bad person, ugly,
terrible and all other bad things to say.

3. Why do you think do people hate him but babies smile at him?
- Babies smiled at him maybe because the babies are attracted to a beautiful spirit and
intelligence and his unhampered soul to search for the truth.

4. Expound on this line by Cardo:

“Is there something in life so good so beautiful that we can never know?”
- It takes a matter of "appreciation"... Good and beautiful are dependent on one's judgment...
Even the simplest things in life like could be "magnificently" beautiful in someone's eyes IF one
can only apprecite them... Everything is everywhere, you just have to open your eyes to explore
and discover the goodness and beauty resting in silence.

4. What is the lesson of the story?

- It’s easy to look at people and make quick judgements about them, their present and their
past, but you’d be amazed at the pain and tears a smile hides. What a person shows to the
world is only one tin facet of the iceberg from sight. And more often than not. It’s lined with
cracks and scars that go all the way to the foundation of their soul. Never judge. Learn to
respect and acknowledge the feelings of another.

The Wedding Dance

Lumnay is Awiyao’s former wife who still in love with him, despite the fact he married another,
and Awiyao is the lead male who loves Lumnay, but left her because she didn’t produce children
for him. And lastly Madulimay is Awiyao’s new, younger wife, with whom he hopes to have
children.

The story begins at the hours of darkness in an exceedingly mountain village within the
Philippines. There was a pair named Awiyao and Lumnay. They were married for an extended
time but Awiyao her husband hast to marry another girl named Madulimay , Awiyao visited his
and Lumnay’s house where they accustomed live to personally invite his ex wife to affix the
dance but Lumnay refuses to hitch. Lumnay is that the best dancer in their tribe.
They had a heart-to-heart discuss their separation, and on their conversation they discovered that
the couple still had a thing on one another. They still love one another but they need to separate
because their tribe’s custom is–every man therein tribe should have one (or more) child that will
carry his name and if his wife cannot give him a toddler he can marry another woman. It’s a
man’s necessity to possess a toddler.
Lumnay can hardly abandoning of her husband. the 2 both agreed that if Awiyao’s second
marriage failed to work, he will return to Lumnay’s arms and this was sealed by the beads that
Lumnay will keep. Then Awiyao goes back to the marriage because someone is asking him
already. After being fetched by others, Lumnay decided to travel to the marriage to not dance or
to affix the celebration but to prevent the marriage. She decided to interrupt the practice of her
tribe, but when she is near all her guts to prevent the marriage suddenly disappeared. She didn't
have the courage to interrupt into the marriage feast. Lumnay walked faraway from the dancing
ground, aloof from the village. She visited the mountain instead and within the mountain is
where she diverted all her bitterness in her and she or he partly reminisce their story of Awiyao.
The conflict here is that the lead characters have to follow their tribe’s custom , and it is resolved
when they had a heart-to heart talk that they should part ways and continue with their own
separate lives. And Awiyao’s second marriage will not work he will comeback to lumnay’s
arm’s again. They should follow their tribe’s custom and on the part of Awiyao he shows that he
really wanted to have a child to follow his name but there is a bit hesitance on lumnay’s part.
The story of Lumnay and Awiyao wrestles with this difficult issue. Despite how upsetting it is to
Lumnay, she must let Awiyao go, not only because of their culture, but also because it is clear
that he will not be happy without a child. “ if you truly love a person, you must let them be
happy”
