Q1. Water flows through a pipe AB 1.2 m diameter at 3 m/s and then passes through a pipe BC 1.5 m
diameter. At C, the pipe branches. Branch CD is 0.8 m in diameter and carries one third of the flow in
AB. The flow velocity in branch CE is 2.5 m/s. Find the volume rate of flow in AB, the velocity in BC,
the velocity in CD and the diameter of CE.
[Ans. 3.293m3/s, 1.92 m/s, 2.25m/s, 1.0735m ]

Determine the velocity and stream function at a point P (1, 1) which is lying on the flow net of the
resultant stream line. Also determine the pressure at P(l, 1) if the pressure at infinity is zero and density of
fluid is 1000 kg/m3 [Ans. 1.174 m/s, -689.14 N/m2]
Q5. A uniform flow with a velocity of 2 m/s is flowing over a source placed at the origin. The stagnation
point occurs at (- 0.398, 0). Determine: (i) Strength of the source, (ii) Maximum width of Rankine half-
body and (iii) Find width of the Rankine half-body at origin
[Ans. 5 m2/s, 2.5m, 1.25m]
