Safeti 7.21 now available to download from the customer portal

A new version of Phast and Safeti (version 7.21) is available to download from the customer portal.

This release includes further enhancements to the capabilities introduced in version 7.2 as well as
addressing several bugs that have been identified since that release and have been mentioned in previous
status notes.

Safeti 7.21 is a full installation and hence can sit side by side next to any existing installations. There is no
need to uninstall any older versions you have.

With regards to licenses – your existing Phast/Safeti 7.2 license will work as normal.

A release email will be sent to all users (who have a current maintenance agreement in place) notifying
them that the program is ready to be downloaded from the customer portal.

The following defects have been addressed in 7.21 (and are listed below). Full details can be found in the
release notes for Phast and for Safeti.

 D-09571 Wrong Material Property template being used for HF

 D-10664 and D-10751 Math 30 error when running Risk Calculations
 D-10691 Unconfined explosion strength and efficiency not being used
 D-10476 and D-10747 Long pipe line risk Model, discharge results not being cleared
 D-10779 and D-10784 Errors on upgraded material file
 D-10610 and D-10867 Errors on running the Long Pipe Risk model
 D-10854 Calculations not found when running certain run rows
 D-10863 and D-10987 Size of Safeti Study file becomes excessively large resulting in difficulty
saving the study
 D-10855 Long Pipe Line Risk model, not deleting auto-sectioning calculations
 D-10939 Material files failing to upgrade
 D-10947 Additional Explosions located at the origin
 D-10938 3D Explosion Method: Flash fires not being applied to inbuilding populations
 D-10995 MPACT 117 error
 D-10940 CCPS ignition sources not working
 D-10982 3D Explosions (Multi Energy), Detonation method incorrectly calculates the explosion
center
 D-10955 Possible Upgrading errors with 6.7 studies

1
The following defects are specifically related to the new Consequence Summary Report released with
version 7.2
 D-10604 Consequence Summary Report: Missing ME and BLEVE blast data
 D-10538/D-10748 Consequence Summary Report: Missing Discharge Rate
 D-10750 Consequence Summary Report: Standalone Multi Energy, Maximum Downwind Distance
not reported
 D-10620 Consequence Summary Report: Incorrect explosion results
 D-10679 Consequence Summary Report: Incorrect ignition point for the explosion results

Update on Phast/Safeti 8.0 development project

We are pleased to report that the Phast/Safeti 8.0 development project is progressing as planned. The
release is currently scheduled for the latter part of the year (Q3/Q4 2017).

Central to the project is the integration of a new dispersion model – called UDM 3. This will help address a
range of limitations in the current model (UDM 2), not least the integration of along wind diffusion (AWD)
capability that will mean more accurate modelling of short duration releases and time varying releases
(especially those with rain out).

Read our blog post here for more information on along wind diffusion (AWD) and the
benefits/improvements it offers.

New version of Safeti Offshore to be available soon

A new version of Safeti Offshore (version 7.3) will be available to download soon.

New functionality associated with this release includes:

a. Export cases to onshore. This enables users to take advantage of the safety systems
capabilities (isolation, detection and blowdown) available in Safeti Offshore to create cases that
can be run in Safeti Onshore.
b. Ignition control modelling. Users now have the option to specify when shutdown will be
initiated enabling finer control and more realistic modelling. Two options are possible “on
isolation” or “on detection”.
c. Ability to modify response times on case level. The response times can now be varied at the
case level, giving users a high amount of flexibility with respect to scenario definition.
d. Vulnerability selection for Risk Ranking Points (RRPs). It is now possible to select what
vulnerabilities should be used in calculations for RRPs. This allows more targeted calculations
resulting in appreciable time savings.
e. Pool evaporation modelling (modelling of the evaporation off pools). A long-standing gap
in the analytical capabilities of Safeti Offshore was the inability to model clouds that disperse of
pools. This limitation has now been addressed.
f. Ability to generate risk contours. Traditionally, risk
results (e.g. individual risk and PLL) from Safeti
Offshore have been in the form of tables/numbers with
no graphical output. User can now generate risk
contours in a similar manner to what obtains for the
onshore version.

Key features added to recent releases include:

g. Support for angled platforms. Safeti Offshore now
supports platforms that are located at an angle to each
other. Calculations such as escalation between
platforms, impact on linked bridges etc. are also Figure 1: Angled bridge linked platforms in
possible. Safeti Offshore
h. Improvements to the EXPRESS dispersion model.
Users can now enter “filling fraction steepness coefficient” at case level.
i. Various Reporting improvements and bug fixes.

Further details on availability will be communicated as soon as it is released.
